Carbon Caps arrived and :o)

Received the carbon mirror shells this arvo from Tekarbon in the states, they do look good but the downer is one appears to either be damaged or has a manufacturing defect. Shame as the other cap is perfect :headbang:

I've e-mailed Tekcarbon so hope they will exchange them :?

Could it have been damaged in transit? Pretty poor quality-control if not.

Unsure Mike, the box appears undamaged and they were wrapped up and the box filled with polysterene packing. There is no damage to the surface of the cap and its smooth, they look like stress cracks in the finish. I had a similar problem with the BMW performance mirror caps for the 1 Series as there was white marks in the clearcote. I bought them off a BMW dealer through e-bay and they must have been blind not to have noticed the imperfections, suffice they did replace them with a perfect set.

They look absolutely stunning... Do these fit the E85? If so can you link me to their product page? I'd love a pair of these...

Yes they have them for the E85.

I've just received a reply from Tekarbon to say the damage was done in transit as they were checked and were perfect when boxed and to send the damaged one back for exchange. Speedy reply back from them so they appear to be a decent company.

So you have to send that one back to the USA? That's gonna cost you a bit! Did you pay 310 dollars for them? :o

They weigh next to nothing Steve so postage won't be much, bonus was no import duty :)

These are the only ones I can find that are direct replacement shells rather than cheapie stick on's.

Yeh I suppose but I'd have thought after seeing your pics they would have said do what you want with it and we'll send you a replacement!
They do look great and can't wait to see them on properly, do they just clip on or is it a bit more tricky than that?
......£210 though
I took my front spoiler wrap off today as I wasnt sure about it :(

Are these Wing mirror COVERS? or are they complete replacements for the stock mirrors? There are some geat looking ones on ebay, but all seem to be covers and dont replace the stock mirrors... shame.

Hi Steve, I'm guessing they want the cap back as they will strip the carbon off and redo it, the shells are BMW ones.

To fit them you just unclip the glass and there are a couple of clips inside the mirror housing, its just a case of pushing the clip while prizing the mirror cover off. The replacement just snaps back on, 5 min job each side.

The price is cheap compared to BMWs carbon bits, the BMW carbon covers are around £230 each :? so not far off 500 a pair.

These replace the plastic painted mirror shells i.e. the old shells clip off the mirror housing and carbon ones clip back on. The other type are the cheaper ones that stick on over your existing shells using double sided tape.

If you can sell your old ones then its not a bad deal. Although if they are that easy to remove wouldn't it be cheaper to just get the originals covered?

I will be keeping the original covers as when I trade in will put them back on and sell the carbon covers.

You mean cheaper to cover the originals with carbon wrap? I just prefer the real deal than the fake stuff :)

Those look good mate, seen a few guys with faulty cf from tekarbon though, and for top money wouldn't expect such defects. Seems they always blame the packing....

Cheers for the info, yepp I find it hard to believe it was transit damage as the box is undamaged and there is no indication of any impact damage. Will give them the benefit of the doubt and exchange it but if it happens again then refund time.

Tim.

Yeah and make sure they pay you the postage back mate, a mate of mine had some mirror caps, same as you they were 'damaged' in transit.. When he sent them back they refused to pay the post. And that was in LA, so not much to pay!

Good luck!
