Carbon Black Vs Black Sapphire

I've been told that carbon black actually looks blue in the flesh... i've not seen it in person. Of all the cars I have looked at online they certainly appear to be black in the photo's. My last Z was black sapphire and looked really nice for it. I assumed carbon black would be darker still or without the sparkle...

Can anyone comment on the differences?

Carbon Black does have a blue cast to it in bright light, the same way Ruby Metallic looks black with a red cast.

My M3 is Carbon Black and my Z4M is Sapphire.

The M3 looks blue in normal daylight and can look purple at some angles really is a lovely colour but such a b*tch to keep clean.

The Z Sapphire black is how it should be a nice black that sparkles when clean.

People even say the M3 is blue :headbang: :D

Mmm I agree definitely blue tinge to it, I do like it though. If you look online at used Z4's you can definitely see the blue in it.

I like the ruby black, too, but we couldn't get it this side of the pond. I do like the way my sapphire black cleans up, though. :)

While I respect other poeple's personal taste, isn't it a shame to hide the Z4's wonderful array of complex concave and flaired surfaces in such dark colours? When we got our red Coupe we also had the choice to go for an equivilant one in Black Sapphire. In any light or angle it just didn't have the same impact, which I thought was a big spoil for the Z4's shape, particularly in Coupe form.

This is Sapphire:

You can tell the difference in my pictures above!

Yep, you can. Sapphire is more "sparkly" and tends to have a "frosted" look (and looks sharp on that convertible.)
