Car would not start

Had dinner with the wife, went out to the car, put the key in, depressed the clutch, turned the key and nothing...tried it a few times and nothing. No sounds no dimming of lights, nothing. Unhooked the battery and hooked it back up nothing. After sitting for over an hour waiting on the flatbed truck to pick my car up, I kept trying. Finally I gave it another shot and it started up. Just to be clear, the starter engine is not making a sound and the battery is not dead. I was turning the key and nothing would happen. On the drive home at speed I turned the car off a couple times and tried to start it, same thing nothing would happen. I would compression start the car and try again. Drove the car to the shop tried to start it 3 times before leaving and it worked 2 out of the 3 times. Very confused as to what this could be. The only thing that comes to mind is the switch on the clutch pedal that tells the car if you have it depressed or not.

Certainly sounds like the immobiliser might be acting up, I would at least get it checked out just to eliminate it.

Tried the spare key?

+1 the key charges in the ignition slot as I'm sure you know, and if the rechareable bgattery was flat, perhaps through lack of use....

I'm certainly not aware of any electronic link to the clutch pedal....its not advised to start a car in gear anyway and theres no need to depress the clutch pedal if you're in neutral?

Hope you get to the bottom of it....

PS...how many miles has the car done? I have seen ignition switch backplates eventually stop working because of carbon buildup on the contacts (they will still sometimes start when the key is turned very slowly), but not seen that as an issue on the Zed...

Thanks for the advice.

I am not sure if my car has an immobilizer on it or not, however, the car would compression start and stay running.

The car is my daily driver so the battery was fully charged

I did not try a spare key yet

Car just hit 28,000 miles.

On my 7 series, the car would turn but not start with a problem key (immobiliser), but still worth a try swapping keys though.

Talked to the shop and the car started right up for them :x

They are going to start by checking the battery under load and move on from there.

They didn't think the immobilizer was the issue because it wouldn't be intermittent.

I'd argue that straight away; intermittent is one thing that electronic frequently ARE. But lets hope swapping key and checking battery circuit sort the problem.
