Hi guys, I bought my car about month ago. I haven't used the car for about last 2 weeks as the weather was bad. Yesterday when i ve tried to start a car I couldn't. I thought this may be a dead battery, so today i ve opened boot and I saw there is water in the boot covering the battery etc. See pictures below. Car is park flat. Could you please advise me on this problem? Any suggestions? Should I replace the battery ?

First thing to do is mop up the condensation. Then charge the battery, though it might be in need of a new one if you don't know the history.

Secondly you need to go through the tedious process of troubleshooting the leak. Common areas are poor seal on the rear light cluster, cracked third brake light (don't buy the cheap aftermarket ones), tiny hole in hood. And I'm sure there's many more areas to investigate.

Looks like that has had a leak for ages, by the rusty bolt heads. Clearly some one has replaced some of the others. Until you find the leak, put something in the boot to absurd the moisture and check/change it regularly. A beach towel will do the trick. If you have home start, have them come out and test the battery for you. :)

Which model is that?

Thanks for all your answers, I think the leak was caused by old rubber from extra rack that is mounted on the rear door. I have replaced the rubbers under the rack and since then I am checking the boot regularly. I bought the new battery and the car is running now.

My suspicion is there may be some leaks from left rear light as under the matt there is some moist.

Question about battery:

I know BMW has a small hose for the battery gases that should be connected into battery. Although my new battery has the hole on another side so the hose is too short. After closer inspection I realized there are holes on both sides but one on the left-hand side is blocked by some plastic. Not sure what to do about this.

Car model is bmw e85 z4 facelift

Again thanks for all your suggestions.
