I think you need to get a new battery in there mate.
Try the battery from the jumper car to confirm.
If ur unsure about hooking up a new batery, the golden rule is to start with the black lead when un-hooking and finish with the black lead when re-installing. You might get a small spark from the black lead but this is normal.

just get the new battery...these cars have very sensitive electric systems and do not like poor supply, you already know your battery is totally dead anyway so stop mincing about with jump leads, get the new battery in and go from there

Thanks for your help with this. Just didn't want to buy a new battery only to find out that it had to have that breather hose hole, but it doesn't have to… Correct? I can just use the one that's currently there.

free screenshot softwareYou will all be pleased to know the problem is fixed. And yes you were all correct - it was the battery :wink: I'm going to monitor the replacement battery over the next few days to see if there's any drain on it or whether it's a simple case of the other one just dying.

hah glad you solved this - my car is currently suffering the same fate (albeit my battery is more dead than your dead one was dead).
Mine is dead enough that i can't pop the boot to access the battery - thus require some significant faff to even check the stats on the current old battery. Least it's not a bigger issue eh!
Did you go for an AGM battery?

Battery: Umm, actually the previous owner still had his old one so I drove up and got that from him. Didn't want to get a new battery until I knew it was that. Going to keep an eye on the drain of this one. Fortunately I have another car so if the Z is out of action it's not that bad.

1. Oil! (ok, so this is pretty much a given for any performance car, or any car you actually care about...)
2. Electrics, ie, battery. There are so many threads on here and elsewhere with people trying to diagnose warning lights on the dash, strange behaviour with car accessories etc, that turn out to be down to the battery. I don't like throwing money away either, but you can't really go wrong with replacing a battery, as it may save you a lot of hassle further down the track. They're not super expensive (well not for you guys in the UK...
).
I notice that no one answered your question about the breather tube on the battery - YES they are kinda necessary. They're their to vent any gases from the battery to the outside world. You don't want any gases not created by your own body circulating around the cabin :wink: .
Oh, and full disclosure - I still have the OEM battery from 2008 in my car - so do as I say, not as I do. But to be fair, I pretty much leave mine on a CTEK charger when it's not in use. Replacement is on the 'to do' list, but it's still holding a charge well.
