Car won't start after flashing airbag control module

Hi Guys,

Rather stupidly I have tried to flash a used airbag control module myself via WinKFP and correct the VIN so that it matches my car.

I have done various bits with my VW in the past so thought i'd give it a go but unfortunately while it all seemed to successfully flash and reading the module after shows the right vin now, the dash lights that all lit up when flashing started just stayed on and now the car refuses to start.

It seems to still be contactable by my code reader and laptop so I don't think its bricked its like it is in some sort of state of waiting for programming of some sort.

For now I have left the car with the battery disconnected and on charge in the hope that it resets something, but I'm looking for options to check before I give in and trailer it off for professional diagnostics which is what I should have done initially!

Any help appreciated, i'm gutted! :(
 
I haven't tested that TBF. Do you think try disconnect and then reconnect battery see if it still complains?

Old one is water damaged so i'm reluctant to hook it back up. Happy if it just flags up the airbag light again, just having a non starting car is a bit of an issue :)
 
Ok good news, after leaving battery off and reconnecting car starts fine. It has errors relating to airbag anf the Vin is incorrect and showing as "1" but i'm going to call that a win and take it to a specialist!

Thanks for getting back to me hopefully this de-stresses someone else in a similar situation at some stage!
