As the title says, but I'm totally out of my knowledge zone.
For my Jeeps I fancy the idea of an old breakdown transporter. Drive on rear, strap down to bed. Save the need to mot, tax and insure 2 Jeeps. Gives me the ability to get them home when broken and transport tools/spares to venues, etc.
Needs to be capable of moving 2 tonne of Jeep.
I see 2 basic sorts. The bigger transit van type and in effect the 7.5 ton lorry (although some seem to be down rated 10 tone trucks)
Some attractions to the 'lorry' due to sheer size, ability to cope with big Jeeps, sleeper cabs, tool storage, etc. but guess the transit is cheaper to maintain and run.
My licence seems to cover me for anything so that's ok.
So has anyone any experience of such things?
Some say MOT exempt? How come and is there therefore another requirement?
Are they expensive to insure?
Are 100-200k trucks dead or have 'weekend life left?
It will live outside the unit where my Jeeps are stored,Summer and Winter, but doubt that's an issue.
Any thoughts or advise welcome
