Talking of future cars, I just ran across this inforgraphic of upcoming car technologies:

loosely related but watched a video on BMW's adaptive headlights last night which was amazing. constant full beam effectively until it recognises a car ahead. It then angles the headlights to form a 'tunnel' ie deflects the beams away from the incoming car that it tracks via camera, so you have constant high intensity light without dazzling the other driver. Then when the car gets to the point where it's too close to be able to point a light away, it shuts off the nearside light until they pass and goes back to full beam when they do. for moth oncoming and same direction traffic, it's pretty amazing stuff

Till it goes wrong

I guess fully autonomous cars will probably end up being compulsory in the not too distant future *shudder*. Enjoy being petrol heads whilst we can.

for a daily driver it makes a lot of sense, have used a lot of those things on a 335i hybid. Prestart and warmed up from your phone before you go out in winter is great, connect to the internet to find the closest shell garage if you are in an unknown area or have it read out your email so you can have a think about what you need to do that day on the way to the office. Adaptive lights get caught out a bit with humps and dips in the road but you have the option to switch it to normal, great for busy A roads though.

*automated drones

..makes you wonder if today's cars will be allowed on the road in ten years time?
