if its booked in for an MOT does it need to be insured? - i have insurance to drive an vehicle not in my name

i'm going looking at a 4x4 and i know its not taxed, i have a gut feeling its probably not insured either

Yes it needs to be insured.

Using the mot station is dodgy, the police are wise to this.

From the rule book I don't think you can. It can be on a trailer I.e. no wheels touching the road but if any are in contact with the road then it needs to be taxed.

When I bought mine, I just had a friendly word with previous owner. Drove it home with his tax on. Waited until the end of the month/New month and then transferred it all over to my name. Job done.

Come on guys it's £25 quid at best that you'll lose by taxing it online on a monthly DD.

I'd piss more than that up the wall on a mid week night out.

Picked up my X4 from the dealer on the 31st Oct to get a good deal (out but the end of the month). Unfortunately it meant I lost a months tax (as they were paying for the first 6)..

I bought my S2000 a few days before the month ended. The vendor forgot to post his section of the V5 until the start of the following month and I met with unforeseeable delays when arranging the tax such that it stared on the first of the next month.

When I bought mine. I taxed it once home.

If it is already taxed by the previous owner any apnr camera will see it as taxed and the cameras can't tell if you're the owner who taxed it.
