second that ,no fit state. better to ensure its insured rather than worry about the tax. you will have to tax it from the beginning of the month anyway so it wont be tax evasion it will just be non displayment and now they dont issue you with a disc to display anyway so no offence exists as such any longer. if you dont retax a vehicle or declare sorn after receiving the v11 reminder you get a second "last chance" warning /reminder after about 18 days. so really nothing to worry about imo :thumbsup:

They don't actually check insurance when you buy tax any more, they stopped doing it last year.

From the DVLA website:

Apply at a Post Office - You can apply at a Post Office that issues vehicle tax.

You’ll need:
your V5C registration certificate or new keeper supplement
a completed V62 ‘application for a registration certificate’ if you don’t have a V5C or if the V5C/2 is over 2 months old (and an application fee of £25)

If required, you’ll also need:
payment for your vehicle tax
an MOT test certificate (it must be valid when the vehicle tax starts)
a valid reduced pollution certificate
 
Insurance is checked electronically as is the mot

Phoned the insurance today and indeed on the day of changeover the insurance would be valid for the new car. However they cannot guarantee that the DVLA will update their system in time.

Indeed the chap I spoke to said he tried the same thing 3 weeks ago, changing the car on the Friday but was unable to tax the car until the Monday. So that's encouraging!

Pretty much as I expected B.S. I think your best option is as I already suggested & ask the dealer to deliver on trades. Not perfect but at least you'll have the car.
 
I'm going to try to tax it friday morning, as i've notified insurance company today and there's half a chance the DVLA will have it on their system by then. If not it's trade plates and tax on Monday

I'll post how I get on

Interesting, askmid now shows the car as insured so the tax should be no problem. This is despite the insurance company starting cover from Friday. Everything looks ok then

Great stuff BS, glad it's sorted. enjoy the new motah :) I just hope this is typical and DVLA / ASKMID have quickened things up a bit, used to be that any changes took a good few days to be updated
