Car stolen last night.... By an aa truck.

Annoying for you, expensive, and worrying.
What a bummer.


hmm - I thought all BMWs had a tilt alarm? I guess not. Thinking about it - it would be impossible to pull a car onto a flat bed truck if you left the car parked with full lock on the steering. I might try and make that a policy.

Was it your own car - shame these guys can't just pick on company cars really! If it was my C250 hell yeah it would be an inconvenience but that would be about it for me (personal possessions in the car excepted)
 
Sorry to hear this, awful news.

If it was an AA van operator, hopefully the lout can be identified as a result of that and the car potentially reclaimed?!
 
Bad news. I thought Trackers were concealed in random different places. Worrying that they managed to locate and disable it. Makes you wonder how long it took them to get it into a container. You'd think that with the CCTV we are now cursed/blessed with they'd be able to find it. Most motorways and dual carriageways have cameras now.

Tell Plod it's full of doughnuts, you'll have it back in no time at all!

Might have somewhere local to store it until the tracker shuts up. Only need to put it in a garage/multi-storey car park/container and it's effectively hidden.

To be fully secure you need to have multiple systems using multiple comms methods - gprs, 3g, UHF, etc. - most gprs signals will work in a multi-storey as it's the lowest common denominator for mobile phone coverage.

Although I'd prefer not to have the car recovered once it's been stolen, as I'd always feel like there was no something 'not right' with the car.
 
yeah tracker stopped working pretty quickly :-( the car was a company vehicle as is my CLS...... doesn't make it any better however as this is partly my business, so it may as well be a personal car..... it really was a nice one as well, i choose it personally and was absolutely loaded to the hilt with bits, including a remap :-( my fleet insurance premium next year for the fleet is going to sting...... Business is pretty tough at the moment so this hasn't really come at a good time as you ALWAYS loose out somewhere.......

The police think i left the car open :-( They also reckon its still in birmingham, they said they will easily be able to track it on CCTV, then the call i just had they said its vanished...... so im guessing its in africa now.

definatly..... i would have have literally given up if my z4 was taken...... way to much time and effort and money sunk into that one....
 
awful, at least you didn't get hurt as they probably intended to take the car whoever got in their way, what cambridge university netball teams!
 
As recently posted on another thread, an old mate who works for insurance companies tracing stolen cars tells me there is a method to locate OE trackers (which was not divulged). The advice if your motor is special to you, is to fit a second, non BMW tracker. Apparently this is foxing the thieves since they stop looking once they find the BMW tracker and some motors have been recovered.

In the 'old days' we used to rig our cars with a hidden or disguised cut out switch in the LT ignition circuit, an unused button on the dash was favourite, but I don't know if the electronics would let you do it now. Not high tech' but it worked.

See the previous thread re hacking in to cars with laptops, particularly BMWs, this should be well known to Police stolen vehicle specialists (but not necessarily mainstream cops). I assume you are happy it was secured? if you have problems convincing the Police that it's possible to steal a secured BMW without keys PM me and I can put them in touch with the guy I mentioned above, his job is sponsored by the car insurance industry and he works closely with the Police.

Feel for you Beedub. I'm always wary of Starcity, but that was a real pro job and you'd not stop it.

I believe the pros can disarm trackers quite easily. Read it somewhere but can't find it at the moment.
 
Thank god it wasn't the Z! At least your properly insured (with the gap). Sorry to say it but I dont think you'll see that car again. :thumbsdown:

Not sure they would have cared, these b********ds would have done this mob handed and you could have come off the worst. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.
