car SOS

Just finished watching season 9.

I genuinely like the show. In this season they upped their skills for bodywork quite a bit. The amount of work they put into some projects is pretty amaizing. They could easily make every car episode into a part 1 and 2, showing more of the restauration (they hardly show interior trimming anymore, maybe too common and easy  )
You can also see that they are struggeling to give Tim a bit of a different role. The haggling gets a bit less.

I'm also amaized at what people keep as an retirement restauration project. Of course these owners get very ill, but even if they'd live a healty and sorrow free life til 80+ some of those projects would be way out of a private persons' league.
Then again, it is part of the reason this show exists, nice that they help people that have it so bad. That gives this show an edge.

Was that on channel 4 catch up (all 4 or whatever it's called), or somewhere else?
I've only seen a few episodes all the way through as I always forget when it's on.

I think it was on More4. When I find something like that I do "Series Record" so I don't miss any!

But some of this series have needed major rust repairs dealt with - in fact if they didn't get on Car SOS they'd probably be scrapped because it just wouldn't make economic sense. :o

Been renamed Tractor SOS after tonight's episode. Fuzz was looking confused trying to get an Fergi onto the car lift.

Of course. If you look at that ice cream truck.....
They said it took 2000 hours work, and that is even a lot less than I expected. 3000 or 4000 hours would have been likely too imho as they made every panel and every box section new from scrap.
If it was 2000 hours, and say 50quid/hour for a skilled panel fabricator, that alone is 100k
Parts and services from other companies still has to be added on top of that, so I estimate that that truck has cost 150k at least.

I think only that jaguar would have been feesible to restore for a private person.

The one shown last night was a Mk3 Cortina - you sure the Lancia wasn't a repeat?
I've trawled through all episodes of Car SOS on Ch4 (More4) catch up from this latest series and there is no Ford Cortina MK3 ???

Pretty sure it was a brown 2ltr GXL, but I could be wrong.
Fuzz was quite overcome, as his parents had the same car

I do like Car Sausage but as others have said I don't like the "see how Tim can get a bargain/ stuff for free" c*ap.
I wonder what sort of contract/ conditions the participants have to sign with the production company before they start with a resto?
The one that started me thinking about this was the AC Aceca they did a while ago. It was a pile of rust in the old boy's garage. An hour (of TV magic) later it was potentially a £100k, ultra-rare restored car. What's to stop him (or more likely his family) selling it off to the highest bidder a week later?

I did like that at first, but grew to like Tims bits of bartering, lol.
As said, you'do wonder what agreement they make,as one episode not too long ago, they got e very hard to find active yaw control unit for an (import only) evo 4,and even Tim expected to pay top whack for it....then they just gave it to himfor free.
Mmmm

great episode this week on More 4 - 74 year old suffering from Parkinsons duped by cowboy car restorers who conned him out of £25k supposedly restoring his 1961 Austin Healey 3000 :x Tim and Fuzz stepped in to rebuild it - heart rendering to see but as always with a happy ending at the reveal :D as for the car - what a beautiful machine :D :D :D well worth a watch on catch up

I remember that episode, was a good one to watch.

The Cortina MK3 is episode 9. It's an orange one.
It was there in my list of pirated downloaded ones, so it has been broadcasted
(mine was captured from national geographic)

Did anyone watch it this week with the Lancia Fulvia?

It looks like the owner got bolted up with a shiny bodge-job when he bought it in 1983, so it was great to see it restored properly!

Remember the Lancia Delta Integrale one... as an ex Lancia owner I had a vested interest

But wasn't expecting the outcome.

I'm not crying, you're crying!!!

Yes, I remember that one too - such a sad ending.

A while ago they revisited some of the owners of cars they had rescued and went for a drive with the owner of an Audi Quattro they had done. At the end of the episode they revealed the owner had passed away after filming. Which was also very sad, but at least he got to drive it again!
