Judging by the attitude of both buyers and salesmen in this thread, I'm glad don't work in car sales for a living

Its like a self fulfilling prophecy :P
Buyer comes into a showroom acting all defensive, thinking the salesman is gonna try rip them off and then salesman picks up that the customer is a bellend et voilà ! :driving:

Buyers will buy no matter what shite gets served up to them - searching for the perfect product and the perfect w***er to sell you it is never going to happen

I shall be experiencing used car sales technique this evening. Will see how many of these traits appear. :D

I always find that I know more about the model I'm buying than the salesman does and I end up having to correct him. They are a waste of space in my experience, nice enough people but not that I need them when it comes to me buying a car.

Yeah I think the response's pretty much prove the ops point of salesman taking a bashing haha.

You missed a word ;)

Wowzers, I have to say I'm blow away by peoples attitude towards people that sell cars.

"give me your best price" love this one, even if your not buying you want the best price??

QUESTION:

Your in my showroom and I show you paperwork with the cost to the dealer of a new car, lets say its £10,000 (inc bonus, reg, PDI etc). How much do you think is fair to add as a profit, i.e. what would you offer me for it?

Match Broadspeed and the money's yours.

Otherwise show me your bonus structure and then we can start negotiations :D

You can flip this on its head if you have ever sold a car.
No doubt if you have sold a few car over the years you have had the unfortunate experience of timewasters, tyrekickers and general piss taking w@nkers!
No doubt salespeople can be self serving A-holes, but then so can buyers!

You don't do yourselves any favours when you huddle in the back office discussing my purchase.Be upfront and do all the dealings in front of the customer.

Your dead right of course, but its only what customers also do when they are with a partner/friend and ask for some privacy to discuss the deal.
I know that's what I do with the missus when buying.
Personally over the years I've met salesmen of all ilks the good, the bad and the ugly but I guess they have just got a job to do.
That said I have walked out of places due to the salepeople being complete w@nkers or totally useless etc
The very least I expect is for them to actually know a bit about the product!

Is that the old 'we're giving it to you below cost' scam, where the 'cost price' doesn't take into account any of the kick-backs/incentives/etc. you receive.

This is what gives salesmen (of any sort) a bad reputation...lack of transparency, or worse...fake transparency.

YOU ARE! :headbang: Your showroom? Just shows the arrogance in that one sentence! Just about sums it up for me.:wkr:

We had an interesting one last month. My daughter wanted a new car and had narrowed it down to two.We tested both ,liked them so it was down to the deal.Turned out the two salesmen were brothers!!!!!!! What a battle. The Audi brother won,but what a fantastic deal.I also think it helped that we arrived towards the end of March.I have never seen a showroom so full of purchasers. They must have been so near the number for their big bonus from Audi.

My only problem with buying a car, is the trade price for my car against retail on the dealers car. The salesman is just earning a crust, and money talks for me, not the pitch I'm force fed. Don't get me wrong, a few of them think selling a motor makes them better than everyone else, but I also know some fab guys that work in the car trade.

Welcome back stranger! What car are you looking for now?

Lots of gereralisation on this thread.... I work with a number of sales people, and they are like any other group. There are good, bad, arrogant, humble, etc. etc. In my dealings with car sales (men and women) i have had varied experiences - good and bad - whenever purchasing a car. In the end, we are all trying to make a deal that we can both walk away happy with - if i'm not happy, i walk away. I never take it personally if I can't get what I want, and just move on to my next choice.

Oh, and popey, at least you're not a banker......
