So today I had my first viewing on the golf GT TDI, a young couple turned up at 9.30am this morning all the way from Crew (Im in Blackpool)
I must say I have never had a car checked over in so much detail before, every inch was checked, over, under and then over again. Everything was to his satisfaction so next up was the test drive, due to lack of insurance I drove and headed for a local dual carriage way. Then it happens............ The engine waring light comes on!!! Talk about bad timing, however the car drove perfectly normal and after a brief stop light went out.
I thought the sale was doomed when he said "I will just nip for a coffee and a chat with the Mrs". I was struggling to find a solution, after all its sunday so no one I know of is open. I did offer to take a small deposit and subject to outcome of the problem I would refund the cash or fill the car with fuel to cover a trip back. However from his expression I could see he was disappointed.
After he left for a chat I called everyone I could think who could help but no answer. I was convinced it wouldn't be a big problem (the car as had a new EGR valve and turbo, almost £3k spent) and In my desperation I called "National Tyres" who said they would scan it for errors and to bring it down. So we all piled into the Golf an drove down, after a short wait we found out it was just a temp sender and a glow plug.
The deal was back on and after some negotiating on price we were both happy and he drove off in a lovely Golf GT TDI.
I felt terrible, but he was very understanding and got the car at a very fair £4350, (I didn't realise the car was due a cambelt so soon and it only seemed right to factor this in. along with the other issues)
Its incredible that every car I have sold, they have always gone to the first person to view them.
