05 2.5 Z4. Have this irritating issue. Car randomly stalls. What i’ve noticed is it will not do it when it’s cold. And prime time it will stall is when the car has been running and I go to my first destination. Then I started up after I am done when I am doing. Sometimes the car will stall instantly and sometimes it will stall shortly after. What I noticed is that just before it stalls or gives an indication, the yellow oil light comes on dash. What I’ve read is that it’s a defective sensor, just odd it does that right before a stall. If I am at highway speeds and it does it, it will sputter and fix itself if I give it gas, so it doesn’t seem like it’s a complete cut of ignition.

When I than put Key in the second position before starting it after a stall, I hear the fuel pump relay I believe clicking several times and hear the pump coming on and off. Upon restarting car, it stalls again, Mabye 8 to 10 times more restarting it works and than is good for the ride home. Upon pulling codes, it shows a camshaft control inlet 1, and a faulty oil sensor. I’ve replaced intake VANOS solenoid, new camshaft sensor on intake. No change. VANOS monitoring in INPA showed normal too. It shows an EWS restart too, but I believe it’s restarting from the stall, not causing the stall? I’ve since coded the DME to remove the EWS immobilizer. Brand new battery, alternator shows a reading of 14.2 usually, and seems strong. Checked connections in engine bay didn’t notice anything.

I’m at a loss, this is about to make me sell the car as I’ve tried everything. Any tips would rock. Mabye a wiring issue or bad DME? Willing to pay anyone who helps me fix this.

When I had a similar problem with a previous car, it turned out to be a camshaft sensor. I took them both out and gave them a good clean, and gave the recess they came out of a good clean too. Car was fine after that. I did not renew either of the sensors.

One other thing you ought to check is that your battery connections are properly tight.
