car ramps

what type of car ramps are people using for the e89 z4, after something to get access to oil changes and floor trays of etc, thinking plastic drive up type ,wondered if it would lift it enough or catch spoiler on the way up

I got a pair of the plastic ones. Used them dozens of times over the last four years and wouldn't be without them.
However, to clear the front spoiler I first run the car up onto a couple of 3ft lengths of scaffold board, then onto the ramps.

The ones I got were from Amazon: Sealey CAR3000C. 1.5 tonne capacity per ramp.
Currently showing at £79.95

I chose to skip the ramps and just assemble stackable cribs -- with a good floor jack.
The crib stands are in 3 sections. They are much cheaper than ramps. It takes a few iterative steps to get the car that high, but it's nice to have the space.

Wow that’s a nice height
And unlike jack stands, which help get the car up quickly for work on the wheels/suspension/linkage, you don't feel at risk of being squished by a tip-over if you do significant work under the car. Originally, I built all four of them as one piece, but I couldn't jack the front that high without crunching the bumpers. So I rebuilt them into 3 sections that lock in place. There's about 15 minutes or more of work to seesaw the Zed up that high from raising front and back iteratively, but the result is wonderfully high, and it can be lower if I leave a section or two out.

Getting into the Zed at that height feels like getting into a lifted X6!

But you make an excellent point -- I have too many kids, and I would never leave a car on jack stands unattended because of that. But the cribs are just as safe/stable as on the ground, so it was up there for a week or two without concern. The trick to get the Zed down from there is to pull the Jenga pieces very quickly

The old age question how do you jack the car up and put a jack stand in the same position. I bought a set of jackpoint stands from the US which allows you to do exactly that. The car sits as solid as a rock and is easy to lift and lower when finished.

I like those. Simple yet clever.
It does look like someone has painted the faces of your discs, though. :?

Yes I used them to fit new discs/recon and paint calipers etc. The discs arrived like that but just wore of first time used. The stand can be used on various model of cars by just using a different top piece to suit the jack point of the vehicle.

These jackpoint stands look amazing.
Sadly I’ve just been on their website and prices are very steep!

Wow! That's around £700 for four plus shipping. :o
They look good, but not that good.

Makes the 45 pound plastic ramps look a bargain

Or the scrap wood cribs...

Those jackpoint stands are pretty cool tech-- I certainly wouldn't return that gift if received.

I use a curb. Run up front wheels on blocks of wood, i can just get under to do oil changes.
Someone on youtube made some nice out of planks that interlock for storage.

I made some wooden ones. Nice and safe, don't slip like metal ones, and feel really secure. Seen here lifting my Audi.
