Any preference out there for one of the following options?

Scenario is: need reliable and economical 5 door family car. Small but not too small. Currently looking at Golf/1 Series etc. Petrol, diesel, manual, auto it doesnt really matter.

1/ Buy second hand - own older car, pay for stuff when wrong
2/ PCP - New or used car, either own at end or trade for next one
3/ Lease hire - New car, trade after contract end

Never considered new car options before as always bought outright second hand. Can you haggle, is there a prefered place to go for deals etc? Any advice welcomed. Probably going to need it summertime.

Lease Hire, so many companies out there. 2 year deal, new Golf, can't go wrong. Although new model out this year, so maybe a 1 series, but it's been hit with the ugly stick.....

Its not the prettiest is it. Tend to be leaning towards leasehiring a Bluemotion at moment. Seems very convenient way of trouble free motoring once you get your head around not owning anything at the end.

Yes, but easiest way to change cars quickly, and no lease balloon or neg equity etc etc. I love Golfs. I'd say an A3 too, but new model of that on its way too
