Car Park Rant

Carol M

Lifer
I had to go to the hospital today for routine tests. Lovely sunny day, great opportunity to take the zed.
Picked up the keys and got to the door and thought, 'no, I'm going in the Freelander'.

Parked up, plenty of room either side and, you guessed it, when I got back big white paint dink on the door.
Good job I didn't take the zed. It's bad enough it was the Freelander but I'm so glad I didn't go in the zed.

Makes me so mad. I would never be so inconsiderate to mark someones car, I always hold my fingers around the edge of the door when I open it. I'd rather squash my fingers than mark someones car.

What is wrong with people??? :x :x

Its because lots of people drive shitboxes that they don't care about, its just a means of transport and will likely be a rusty old heap of crap. As they don't see their car as anything other than transport, that's the way they view others cars.

Even if there's a rustbucket net to me, I still take care not to hit it. It may be that that is all someone can afford. I wouldn't dream of being so careless.
You're right tho M.

So sorry for this, as its my worse nightmare (well, ok, not my worse nightmare...my head is screwed, but you know what I mean!).

Some people belong on Benefits Street (apart from whoever owns that Z4) and just dont give a flying fcuk about other peoples property.

I've noticed as well a real danger is people in 3 door cars with child seats in the back! Doors are longer on 3 door cars, and when the parent is strapping their little cherub into the child seat, they dont notice their arse nudging their door into the car in the next space.

The most annoying thing is there is no recourse. It might have been an accident (but why no note?), it might have been a retard who didn't even realise it had happened, or it might have been scum who simply didn't care - but you will never know, unless you check CCTV.

TBH of the times my cars have been dented, its been the kids flinging open the doors on the back of the people carrier, not the parents.

May of said this before but I parked up in local Waitrose once, got back to car to see a very new red TT parking next to it and then watched as driver got out and her door hit mine. We check it together, no damage, no problem, said good bye. Then he passenger piped up "I wouldn't worry he'll probably hit your car when he get in anyway", like that would make it ok even if I did!

In the z I park as far away as possible next to the driver side of the best car I can see. I really don't get why people just throw doors open it's common sense. Then sometimes if I have a passenger in one of my gripes is when they close the door pushing the top of the glass :headbang: I just think people are generally stupid :?

Yeah I really hate this as well...

People just don't care.

That's really about it. and even when you point it out, they still don;t care and see it as an issue or as you "damaging their property"...

I once kicked someones car as, after they had hit and damaged mine (took the paint off it) they couldn't have cared less, and their attitude about the whole thing just wound me up...

Mind you, after I dented his... he just looked at me and said "so we're even now" and walked away... which wound me up even more!

These days I have a big Jeep when needing to park someone.... they can hit that all day - Jeeps look better dirty and dented... :D

Sorry to hear about that Carol, at least the Zed didnt get damaged.

I hate those people that part so close to my car I can bearly get back in. I have been so tempted to do something to another persons car on a few occasions, but that would just bring me down to their level of intelligence. Instead I just remind myself that ive got a lovely shiny Z4 and theyve got a rust bucket that they dont care about.

I feel your pain. That happened to me recently and it was a brand new 1.9tdi polo which was actually right in my space and less than a foot from my door so I had to go in the other side.

I was so angry and being in for a heart condition it probably wasn't the best!

I'm always paranoid about parking the car anywhere but now a whole new level of paranoia is about to set in!

Sometimes I wish I had a tank just to leave them with a massive dent! There is a couldn't care less attitude towards others property but there's also their a flash git, I don't have that so I am going to damage it. Like someone gave us these things for nothing.

Everyone gets opportunities in life, some choose to do more with them than other and reap the rewards

Hospital car parks are probably the worst as invariably they're full and you have to park at any available space that's going. Not to stereotype but it can be elderly people who need to open doors as wide as possible to get in and out of the car. Usually when I take my 84 year old mum to the hospital we use a disabled pass but it's pure luck if any spaces are free. I only ever take the Z3 as it's narrower but thinking of getting some door protectors

They look a bit naff but will do the job for hospital trips etc.

Have you asked the hospital for CCTV footage? I think most have these days.

I was actually still in my car once in a car park in Tunbridge Wells when the guy next to me reversed out and scraped down the side, damaged two panels of my gorgeous 944 Turbo :x It's a sickening feeling and a horrendous noise. As said before a lot of people don't have any pride in their, or anyone else's possessions.

Andi.

I'm as bad as you can get with this type of paranoia - I won't leave the zed anywhere if I can help it . I'm nearly as fussy with our 2004 Fiesta or even the ancient campervan.

Why are we like this ? How much better would it be if we weren't so paranoid - at the end of the day common sense says it doesn't really matter - one or two dings has no impact on the car's value - it's not as if other people are going to constantly scrutinise our car or care one flying .... about about whatever we drive.

Perhaps hypnosis can help ????????

Some people are completely oblivious to it. Remember parking at the supermarket once and was watching a women get her pram out of the boot. It was a brand new Volkswagen golf, really nice looking car. She first lifted the pram and dropped it hard on the boot sill, then proceeded to drag it down the rear bumper without a care in the word. Guessing if she could do that to her car, knocking a door into someone else's would be nothing.

A lot of people view there car as transport and nothing else.!!

I lived in Australia for a bit and it was so much better over there. The car parks were designed so when you parked your car you could actually open the door.!!! Unlike here where you have little space to open your door.

There is a perfectly reasonable solution to this. We should all drive Lamborghini's because there doors open properly

No need to go over to the dark side. We just all need to drive Z1s!

I live in what I call a very quite sleepy place, I went to a car park last week to take paper work to a lettings agent I worked for parked up put a ticket in the windscreen and as I walked out the car park saw this very old lady push her door open SMACK onto another cars door and she got out wondered off with the door still against the other car to get her ticket, came back put the ticket in and just bloody walked off as if nothing had happened, talk about get your blood boiling if it had been my car can't comment on what the out come would have been, we should have the size of Disabled bays everywhere

Some years ago we had a Toyota Camry. We were on a supermarket car park and walking back to the car we saw a lady with her shopping go to the car parked next to us.
She had a cardboard box and to our utter amazement she plonked the box on our boot while she was faffing in her bag for keys.
Mr M asked her what the hell she thought she was doing and she said, 'what do you expect me to do, I can't find my keys while I'm holding the box'!!!
He told her to take it off and the little witch dragged it across the boot and the staples in the box scratched the paint.
I swear to god I thought he was going to rip her head off.
