Car park protection - Door defender

Park like this

Thats one of the easiest ways to pi$$ other parkers off and will guarantee you will get grief. I parked like that once exactly the same angle and a long transit van parked to my left and when I returned I couldn't reverse out......lesson learnt :)

Just thought I'd add this isn't my car, just a Z I spotted in a supermarket car park. Totally agree the guy is a dick!!

Another forum I use has a "Crap Parking Thread" - this would have to be a serious contender!

But in the event I did such a thing (perish the thought!) I would have parked about 60 degrees to the left, so I could open the driver's door!

Is it just me, or are all Z4s tw*t magnets in car parks? I've lost count of the number of times I park at the back of car parks where there are lines of empty spaces but come back to the car and find a clapped-out van/4 x 4/SUV/Cross-over (whatever that is!) about 18 inches from my driver's door with 2 or 3 empty spaces either side of us.

Superb! Now if only there were more spaces like this in every carpark.

I've only had my Z4 for about 2 months and I've already been concerned about dings.

I'm a delighted new owner of 28i Z4 and couldn't be happier with it. I'm looking for advice on door protectors because the allotted space I have for parking is between two walls!! Nightmare!! The only one likely to ding my doors is me and although I'm very careful a strong wind will inevitably take door crashing onto wall. I'm only renting for a while but don't want to risk any damage as its the only parking there is. Please help??

Hi, could you fix some carpet offcuts on the wall to line up with the door edges?
Ps, post some pics of your zed for us

Hi all,

I have to park my Z4C at Heathrow every day in a large staff car park and as you can imagine it's quite the minefield for car doors!

I've seen a few cars with Doordefenders or Doorshox on that protect them from car park dings but they've always been on larger saloon cars. Doorshox seem to be only obtainable in the US but Doordefenders are sold from a few sites in that will ship to the UK.

Does any one here have any experience of using them? They seem to come in a few different sizes and I'm unsure which ones to get!

Many thanks

Guy

Were you in the blue Coupe that used to park at the Regus on the Bath Road? I've got the silver coupe that's there twice a week (now with nicer wheels!) There was a Z4M Coupe used to park there as well from time to time.

I've had a nasty dent in my door and a big scratch on the top of the wing in that car park :x

I was on my way back from havin roofmotor relocated by Durham Dave and stopped at M6 services for a piddle and a coffee.
Got back to the car and decided to break out the butties and just take a few minutes before setting off again.
Noticed a big 4x4 had parked next to me on drivers side which wasnt there before and was a bit close so was naturally concerned I had incurred a ding. fortunately not, but as I was sitting there stuffing me gob a family of knuckle-draggers with the largest underbites and bellies you've ever seen started walking towards the 4x4.
A teenage girl proceeded to walk to and open the front passenger door and even though she had seen me sitting there and my window was open sure enough... *DINK*

I shouted 'aye steady on willya!' to which she retorted 'sowwy' and shut the door. I got out and as I surveyed for damage off they went, nearly swiping my backside and taking me with them. The driver was either too preoccupied with getting away or just didnt want to face a scene but I remember thinking 'I'll be parking this miles away from everyone else in the future'. Fortunately no damage that I could see but was loud enough to make me think there's be a dimple.

People don't give a sh*t these days!

Completely unrelated, but where does Dave live. I need to get mine done. Thanks in advance.

I work with an airline and I park in their crew car park which is just off the bath road, so not me in the Regus but our car park is just as much of a battle field!

The Z4 has been retired as my daily now but if anyone is interested I used the ‘door defenders’ for 7 or so months everyday and they were really good. Left no marks on the doors and seemed to prevent the car park dings. I see a lot of cars in the staff car park using them too so it must be catching on!

Here in Worthing you would come back to a bike parked in there as well,,, maybe 2. And yes I mean MCs

This is what I call the Zed Bay at our local supermarket, and I know that lots of people will complain but I love my Zed, paid a fortune for her new and it would truly break my heart if someone dinged her ! By the way did anyone else see this article in the paper this week ?

I got a Ding in the new car in August - the hotel car park in Germany . I had taken all care to let my wife out of the car and parked a gnats whisker from the hedge on the near side leaving a big gap on the offside - some daft git squeezed in with little to spare! :headbang:

I don’t think there’s anything to stop the morons

Sorry for the late response but he lives in Durham. Did you manage to hook up with him? Highly reccommended by me.

And sorry all, but the prize for the most outstanding defensive parking goes to my bezzy mate Lau and her 4-space slam-dunk! *Chortle* :D

Note: the other defensive parker (Silver Citroen) over yonder on the grass bank. Clever-ish.

With regards to those door protector type products, I think that will again could cause "the jealous type" to zone in on the car and potentially damage the vehicle out of spite anyway,

Just try and find an angled parking space where "DINGS" are less likely to happen

I agree with both these points, one of my biggest bugbear. I am a little more fortunate than most, at work everyone has alotted spaces and I requested an inline parking spot to avoid cars each side. When my wife is with me she is a blue badge holder so at supermarkets and the like I can legitimately use disabled spots. Failing that I always try to park in an inline slot, failing that I look for a spot on a curve that is always super wide, failing that I will look for a spot on an end and move as far over as possible, or lastly I park well away from where anyone else wants to park because I like walking.

However businesses providing car parking have a lot to answer for, many have slots which are far too narrow.
