Car park - "Convenience" fee

The local car parks had their paying machines removed, and you can only pay by phone via an app.

No problems with that, except that it is yet another parking app to be downloaded as no council uses the same company for some reason. However, what I do object to, is that for each parking transaction you get charged a convenience fee of 20p of using the app.

That I do find weird as that is the only way you can pay for parking now, so basically they raised the charges by 20p.

Although, to me it is worth it though as nobody who is not tech savvy can park there anymore so more places available 8)

You are even allowed to feed the meter from your app, which is great as you can just put in the minimum and then just top it up each time.

PITA really as you now need a phone to park there and not everyone has one  .
So they are charging 20 pence for each transaction, and saving on machine maintenance/paying for someone to empty the machines, at least you will get a rebate on your council tax.
Our county council are merging all town councils and will save many hundreds of thousands of £££££ and still our council tax is going up, daylight robbery :x

Ffs - whose convenience is it?

I have a love hate relationship with my phone to the point where I have no apps - but my Mam who is in the late 80's can't even manage to change channel on the TV how the f.. would she pay for parking the car she has to drive because there are no f'in busses anymore? Makes me cross  :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

The first time I got stung for another 60p charge as there is an option on the app where you get SMS-ed confirmation of the parking, second SMS for when the parking is expiring in 10 minutes and the final SMS for when the parking expired. How was I to know you got charged 20p per SMS as well.

Missed out on this get-rich-quick scheme :x

Sshhh - we will be charged 20p to post soon, great way of raising revenue tho :D

(No problem, just put your post between brackets, that generates a credit post)

What gets me though is Victoria Place in Tunbridge Wells, if you park on the lower levels and you can't get a bloody signal, so it doesn't work, even though they advertise it on all the pillars. Luckily you can enter your reg number in a machine and then pay for what you use when you return.

My mother couldn't do it either - but thankfully she isn't driving any more!

So now I'm her chauffeur service.
