Car locking/unlocking & door jammed

Hi everyone

I need some help. I purchased a 2003 Z4 soft top a month ago and have just started having problems with unlocking car with both key fobs and the passenger door I cannot even open.

The key fob on one key when trying to unlock car will turn off alarm and interior light will come on but won’t unlock the car I have to se the key in the lock. The boot button works and opens the boot. I tried the other key and nothing works.

When the car is unlocked I cannot open the passenger door at all from the inside or outside.

I have checked fuses which are ok and have tried resetting keys.

I have read about a GM unit but wanted to know if there is any other possible symptoms that could cause this before going down the route to replacing this.

At was all working fine until about 5 days ago

Thanks

Undervoltage from a bad battery can cause all kinds of misbehaviour. I’d also start with reading the error codes before opening anything or replacing parts.

No codes came up on scanner and battery not old snd has full charge.

Any other check etc would be greatly appreciated as it’s a pain not being able to get into passenger side with this nice weather

I had this problem too, on driver`s side. I had to remove the inner door panel and unlatch the door lock manually handling the cable and the door lock. Problem solved: the new cable coming from door handle to door lock. Try searching, I found it somewhere here on the forum.

Great thanks, I will order a new cable and replace.
It sounds like your main issue with the central locking and the keys may possibly be the GM5 module. Loads of info on here about it. Contact PH001 to get yours repaired if required.

If you can't open from either inside or outside, that's two separate linkages.
It would seem odd for both linkages to fail together. Both are cables, which could stretch. But also the outer handle can wear the small plastic cog that engages with the operating lever inside the door. If the cable starts to stretch, people yank the handle harder and harder and eventually the plastic gets worn away.
Tbh, you need to get it all opened and stripped before you can ascertain the cause. The common component is the actual door lock unit itself.

I've recently had a similar set of problems and if you were anywhere near Norfolk I'd offer to help out if I could.

Thanks for the info shame I’m not near Norfolk I’m in Kent.

I will have to get the door open and have a look

Just a quick question if it’s the GM module and have to send away for repair, am I still able to use the car as needed for work

Thanks for help

You can- the functions that dont work from memory are

Windows
Wipers
Roof
Locks

Not sure if that classes as road legal without working wipers.... but not my call!
