Car insurance renewal

Yep, its that time of year we all hate, I have to service the DS this month and insure the Zed as well - next month it's the other way round :(

Good thing is that DS gave me £50 off the service (Cardiff) and I cut my renewal from £490 with Saga (yes I am an old git) to £202 with Direct line

Saga tried to convince me to stay by coming down to £370 - they must think as soon as you hit 50 you lose all your marble

That's surprising. :?

I'm older than you, but I switched to Saga for my 330i in April because they quoted £240ish which was about £40 cheaper than Churchill wanted on their renewal invitation - and the excess was much smaller. :)

When I brought mine - 2.5l, I’m 41 no points or claims, Esure would not transfer my insurance from the Audi so I had to cancel it

I compared some meerkats & am with Quote me happy - £278.33

It is not surprising to me at all - it has come down £40 from last year but then I had a tough job getting insurance as I had just come out of a company car and they matched my no claims on the DS so I was happy.

Was expecting a large drop this year when I understood what you guys were paying and did not get it so looked around - will be doing the same next month on the DS.

Mt excess has gone from £200 with saga to £350 with DL but there's a saving of close to £300 and the intention is to not have to pay the excess :D

I never understand why they won't transfer policies - its not as if you have suddenly become a teenage tearaway because you bought a vert - then again maybe you have

Ive just renewed my car insurance for the Z and just gone with SAGA for the first time - £174. Got to shop around every time, they rely on you being complacent.

Wow - that's one hell of a difference to what they offered me £49 then down to £370, nowhere near that level.

I had 5k miles on mine with PNCD and legal cover what have you got to get to £174

Sorry I made a mistake, Ive just checked the policy its £162.11! thats 5k pa, protected NCD and the car is garaged. They are all at it, I had a renewal come in for home insurance and it was sky high, went on a comparison site and renewed with the same company for a lot less. The get out clause when you complain is that its a different underwriter. You have to be prepared to do it with everything, Ive got Virginmedia. I have to physical threaten (and be prepared) to leave each time at the end of a contract to get a better deal, annoying when you see what they offer new customers. What rubs it in is when you call them to cancel and they say how can we retain your business! :w00t:

Sugar, that is basically what I asked for and £370 quoted, the only difference is no garage but I am pretty rural with 3 houses and the lane is pretty well hidden.

I just don't get how it can be so different, never mind these introductory deals are going to stop now when the new law kicks - everyone one will be paying the £370 I got quoted :o

I have found LV to be reasonable for my 23i, premium was reduced by £30 this year down to £218. All usual bolt ons guaranteed NCD and 5k per annum, I am in a DT postcode which is apparently a good one.
Recently tried a quote for a 35is and it was only £30 more which was a surprise.

Something to watch is voluntary excess. I input from 250 to 0 and the quoted difference was about a £1. (Just done money super market, coop quote 197)
Perhaps not significant on car, but on my bike, for paying £2 extra, i got zero voluntary excess (which 450 was automatically applied on quote) and 350 fixed.
My bike only worth £2k if wrote off, yet 800 total excess.

Thats good on a 35iS with the power difference between the two :D

Saga tried to blame the voluntary excess difference which is a joke all round on a £300 difference in quotes :headbang:

ATM I'm with Direct Line for the Zed and the Yeti. Pay just over £220 for each, PNCD 9years, legal cover, on driveway. Renewal came in and the Yeti increased by a tenner and the Z4 went down by the same amount. I'd have thought that would have been the other way around??!

Quoted £10 less with Adrian Flux and interestingly they don't add anything for the remap. Also waiting to hear back from Chris Nott and they've said they expect a load of between 10 and 25% for the remap. Hard to believe a "specialist" Z4 insurer has to charge extra for a fairly common mod

Thats where I am for the Zed at £202 an the Yeti seems reasonable as well - not certain I would bother switching :D

Yeah, the guy at Chris Nott said that quote was already pretty good, but I make a habit of checking other quotes for all my renewable utilities and insurance. Very rarely do I end up staying with a company for more than a year or two

Seems sensible to me - I am happy with £202, means I can insure 2 cars this year for the price of just the zed last year :D

I find it strange that the Yeti, that's worth about £3000, is about the same price as the Zed that's worth 4 times more and is about 3 times the power :?
