Car insurance on the rise?

This is the first year that my insurance company as come back with a considerably cheaper quote and not just matched my Confused quote,
It certainly confuses me how they work the price out :!:
Over 30 percent cheaper this year with all the same details as last year exept being 1 year older :dizzy:

Ive just had the renewal notice from Saga - £415 last year - £441 this year with a huge jump in excess £750
Ive just phones Chris Knott and had a quote of £281 with a £250 excess - Last year they were no where near - I just have to check that I can get any repairs (hopefully not) done by a BMW approved body shop.

Update:-
I told that I did not want to renew - they asked why and I told them because of their premium price - at the drop off a hat they reduced it by £90 However the 5k/annum miles still applies and the £750 excess!

Our resident Insurer got my business this year and might even get the business for the 335 in June!

Renewed in January and I definitely noticed a difference this time around. I'd been with Admiral for 9 years as they were always the lowest quote for me. Yes they would increase the renewal each year but after a quick phone call they would magically apply some discounts and I'd get a price I was happy with. Not this year though, they wouldn't budge no matter what after offering a 10% increase over last year with no changes so I went with esure instead.

This was two weeks before I bought my Z though, and after attemping to add it to my esure policy and being informed they don't offer multicar policies, I ended up cancelling for £20 within the 14 day period and taking out a brand new policy with Admiral who were now competitive again. I even did it over the phone and there was no mention of me having been a customer up until 2 weeks previous!

For reference I paid 399.84 and another 269.84 for my Honda.

I phoned my current insurer (saga) they miraculously discounted their offer by £90 - the 5000/yr and £750 excess remained however. They made no effort to reduce the excess nor increase the mileage allowance.

I declined the dubious offer and informed them that I had paid my £281 to Chris knott with only £200 excess and no mileage restrictions. It would have been rude not to!

The threat was that my long standing customer status would be ruined by a move to another insurer. That puzzled me!

Moneysupermarket man Martin Lewis showed a graph the other week which indicated 21days before renewal was the best time for a quote, leave until the last week and you will get stung.

They probably know that you will be in a bit of a panic to get sorted so will seize the opportunity to plunder the wallet!

My personal experience with Direst line differs from Martin Lewis' advice. My premium last year was £292 and I received the renewal quote a month early through the post for the same amount. I then went on line to the Direct Line website with 2 weeks to go and was quoted £334. So , with 1 week to go I called Direct line , told them my quote history and asked for a discount . They quickly came back to me with a new premium of £234. :driving: :D

Just renewed the insurance on my X6 and for the 4th year running it has come down again.
Last year £369, renewal £386, after phone call £328 :D

Just renewed last week on the M140i, my Premium with BMW had gone up from £568 to 650, with 250 excess, full NCB etc, called Adrian Flux and reduced it to 427 so a little better :)

I used Chris Knott for the 35is and they were very competitive - I ve just tried them for the 335 and the amount saved wasn’t worth the effort.

Thats a shame Ron, going by other forums Chris Knott seem to be reasonably competitive compared to most. I only tried Adrian Flux as I'm with them on the Hyundai, plus BMW won't insure you if the car has non BMW parts fitted which I only recently found out about when I read the policy in more detail

My policy was due for renewal a few weeks ago.

I used Churchill last June when I had my 3.0Si and they were very reasonable - but seemed expensive for my MC with some mods, as in £570+.

I tried Chris Knott and all they seemed to want to do was beat the Churchill price by 10%, so they quoted £514 - not impressed.

Adrian Flux did it for £422. :D

My renewal for the zed and the e350 just came in.. increase of £3 on the z to £174 and £5 on the merc to £278, done all the comparisons and no cheaper deals to be found so staying with my current insurers this time round, nothing drastic increase wise though :D

Aviva quoted me £720 renewal on a 3 car policy (up from ~£600) and wouldn't budge or give me any explanation as to why it was increasing by £120, so got a new quote from LV for £590 + £65 cashback. Their loss!
