Car insurance madness....

The way it was explained to me is that a garage is the highest risk because thieves assume a car is more valuable if garaged and would also be able to work undetected.
Being on the drive is a higher risk than being parked on the road as it is obvious which house the keys are in compared to the car being left on the street.

Sounds like nonsense to me but that's what I was told by one company. :?

Just done mine too - similar bs really..

auto-renewal quote was ~650 (?!)
comparison sites returned ~450
moving house in 2 weeks changed quotes back to 650
requested requote from existing insurer to beat 450... quoted 500 with no increase to move house just a 25 admin fee. went with this in the end.

makes no sense really, as i got quotes for garaged at both addresses out of interest, and it was +£100! Safer on the road apparently.

Garaging usually works out cheaper for me, but I'm not THAT suprised that garaging attracts a premium over road (although how it does over a driveway I'll never know). Like a few have said, if someone gets into your house and you have a garage, it's game over. They WILL take the car, or at least have time to get into your car without anyone being the wiser. Then you probably have a fair amount of claims of car damage resulting from house damage, eg fires..

It's wierd though. My insurance worked out to be about 350 quid cheapest. Moving reduced it down to about 280. But the same move made my bike insurance go up by 30 quid even though the garage is more secure and it's a less populated area - AND my bike was stolen at the old address
