Well, call me a grumpy old man! I have a CRV which I need for the winters round here and which my wife and children 'borrow' as required. My insurance renewal came through raising the premium by 10 % from £310 to £343 so thought I would shop around.
Admiral quoted about £250 and Direct Line £305. So I decided a quick call to my current insurers to see if they would at least match Direct Line. They have dropped a bit in the past.
Took Option 1, then Option 1 then Option 3 (Are you thinking of leaving us option). Very pleasant lady pointed out I was on an 'old type of policy' and would I like a quote for the 'newer type of policy' which is structured and underwritten differently? At this stage I thought ah, the current customer versus new customer quote - might get something out of it.
What I had not expected, with 5 drivers and guaranteed NCD was a quote for £173. :!: That right, a whopping 50% reduction !!!
I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!
Best part was, perhaps, the lady in all seriousness asked if I would like to proceed!
And the moral is? Always, but always, question the quote.
