Car info needed (Z4 E89 3.0 Auto)

Hi everyone,

I am looking to get a Z4 E89 for myself in the coming weeks. My experience with BMWs previously is limited to SUVs, and my experience with coupes was only with a TT Mk2, which was nice but I want something different now.

My ideal car would be a 3.0 Auto in Red, with heated seats and parking sensors, rest is optional. I know there is a 3.5 on this Marketplace, at a very good price but it is a manual and with more power than I might need.

Having said that, there is a decently looking one I found on eBay. Does anyone know anything about it?

Five previous owners, no accident history. MOT history looks good but Autorader values it at £6290. Very clean and well presented, with slight discolouration on front bumper which tends to occur on red cars. Water pump usually needs to be replaced at that mileage

That’s a great car..buy it…

All the toys..auto box.`MSport too…

Way to go son! :driving: :driving: :driving:

The exhaust tips being so filthy would put me off. Shows it hasn't been well cared for IMO. The devil's (sometimes) in the detail.... :)

Thanks for the feedback, so far not too bad.
Changing the waterpump needs to be factored in unless there is a solid proof it has been done, but it would be the same for any other car out there on the market. Exhaust tips.. well, not too bothered with that. There are not too many cars on the market anyways in this price band and all are bound to have some issue.

I have asked the seller for the VIN code and it is: WBALM52060E159178
Can anyone here decode it please?

You can check if a car has been previously written off. You can't check for accident history..

Looks good from the pictures, up close may have flaws that do not show up.
Price is reasonable and milage not excessive, I have seen dealers selling 2.5 cars with lower spec for this price.
A good service history is important on these cars.
All in all could be a good buy , driving it will confirm if it is good.

The only goody missing is one of the higher end 676 / 677 DSP amps and its speakers..but if it bothers you that’s relatively easily addressed later …

Gearbox service should be factored in..what tyres are on it ?

And the rear wind diffuser ..missing..but again possible to fix that ..

I had a full professional audio install and soundproofing on the TT back in the day, and though I did like it, that was another time, another car and another purpose.

Will check re the tyres...

Looks like a nice car and great spec. The other possible things that may need doing would be rocker cover gasket oil cooler gasket and possibly sump gasket.

One big potential red flag is that's a car dealer selling that car as a private sale. Any dealer selling a car asking for cash and stating no returns is suspicious.

The eBay account is a business account. The person is the owner of Milton Service Station LTD.

AutoTrader and CAP both think the car is worth around £6000-6400 as a private sale. £7500 is the value for a dealer.

WBAC will only offer £3600 which shows how slow the market is at the moment.

The tyres are a mix of Bridgestone, Pirelli and Chinese Mazzini of all things, so they will need changing, but that is to be expected.
Apparently, the previous owner had a significant service done last year at Fergies (attached), although I am not too sure why there would be 2 wiper blade sets :)

Anyways, will try and arrange a viewing soon and see what comes out of it...

So looks like it’s had a sump and cam box gasket done..easy to rack up costs at a garage.. price of wiper blades went down as time went by.. :tumbleweed:

I thought unless it was specifically stated as a 'trade sale' it is against the law for a dealer selling for profit to not allow returns (or a warranty of some description)? Isn't that the whole point of buying through a dealer? :?

Correct. As a dealer legally speaking you do not have to give a warranty. How ever you do have consumer rights that you do need to abide to. As a dealer if you legally want no come back you either would need to sell the car in auction format or as a spares and repairs.

My understanding is they can only call it a trade sale when sell the car to another trader. They can't sell it on trade terms to a member of the public. Consumer rights always apply.

It could be the dealers own personal car, but I doubt it. The car has been untaxed for a couple of months and the log book hasn't been reissued. I think they've recently picked it up to sell for profit.

Not many private sellers put paper to cover the floor mats either.

Any dealer selling a car as a private sale is usually dodgy.

Eh? Car in question is listed as being sold by a business seller. Says 'Registered as a Business Seller' by the side of the seller name. Then there are the business details at the foot of the listing. Does not imply anywhere that it is a private sale.

Additionally, you can also verify that the seller is a company by checking the company name against the Companies House database (or just sticking it into Google).

I think it is the line "no returns" that Beerman has picked up on.
