Car in for it's MOT today.

Good news mate. I would check your rear springs though - mine passed with no advisories as it always does and a few days later I found a piece of spring rattling around -as I hadn't used the car since the mot I'm pretty sure they missed it and even with a broken spring the car drove normally and wasn't lower on one side - I have 108s so it was easy to check just by putting your hand between the centre.

I'd had it up on the car ramps last weekend to have a gander underneath and check the springs.

It's something I'll keep tabs on now that it's on the road now, thx for the heads up gov.

Mine goes in Tuesday for new springs - will be interesting to see if it feels any different .

Took my Z4MC into the BMW Main Dealer today for Oil Service & MoT. When I went back to collect it I was told that their most senior technician had carried out the work (apparently he has an M3 himself and likes to work on M's) who commented that my car was "a very nice example" and it flew through with no notifications.

Nice to know it was well serviced - great result with MOT too

Id consider changing tester gov. If theyre missing that, what else are they missing?

That's a good idea - I'll keep taking it to different mot stations till I find one one that fails it then I can be sure they're really thorough :evil:[/quote]

To be fair to the tester the spring could have snapped anytime after he had checked it,unless the rattle was their prior to the test.

Yes - I'm beginning to think that this was in fact a coincidence - when I had my new springs fitted the Indy said that he found a stone embedded in the broken spring that may well have caused it to snap and the break was clean with no corrosion .

Not sure what brand of replacement springs he fitted but he emphasised that they were Msport at the same height as before but were fatter at the base so should be less prone to break than OEM - also have to say the the car sits exactly the same on the road and the ride feels a lot firmer with no rattles or bumps at all.
