Maybe this should be re-posted /edited as "cars before your z4"??

Like a few others that posted on here, still saving for an m-roadster,but anyway.....

Passed my test at 17(early 1991)
cars owned-
1.Vauxhall Nova 1.2 saloon,White.1989 f reg.(from early '91 to late '92)
2.V'hall Cavalier,2.0 GLi,RED,1990 H REG/heavily modified in over 6yr's of ownership,lol);200+bhp :D . (from '92 to '99)
3.a cpl of 92 k reg astravans(work mules) in mid 90's
4.Fiat Bravo HLX,'98 R reg,Burgundy. (from '98 to 2002)
5.Seat Leaon Cupra(180 bhp),Dark Blue,2002/'02 reg. (from '02 to early '04)
6.Seat Leon Cupra(220bhp),Mercury Grey(ie.SILVER),2003 REG. (from 'early '04 to early '07)
7.BMW Z4 3.0i SE,bLACK(June 05 reg)...from early 2007 to present :D
Still to get...Either a Z4 'M' Roadster OR SUPERCHARGE MY 3.0i  :)

I also had an interest(circa 1997/99)in a BMW 328i coupe,that was a 95 n reg,with every m3 add-on going......very tailhappy :P

1994 Oldsmobile Achieva S - owned for 13 years (from 1997 - 220,000+ miles when death of car impending, damn road salt rusted out the back)
2006 BMW M Roadster - 17k miles on-the-clock when bought this year

me ever since = :D

I haven't had a good record of keeping cars for long, although the Z is changing that at the moment....

But my history goes something like this:

1978 VW Polo Mk1 1100
1977 VW Golf Mk1 1100
1983 VW Golf Mk1 GTI Cab
1989 VW Golf Mk1 GTI Cab
1999 Mazda MX-5 Anniversary
2002 TVR Tuscan S
2004 Mazda RX-8 (231)
2003 Vauxhall VX220 Turbo
2006 BMW Z4M Coupe

Since the TVR I've also had a string of 2nd "daily" cars to try and keep the miles off the fun car, which have consisted of:

1996 VW Golf VR6
1991 VW Polo G40
2002 Audi A4 163 TDI
2001 VW Polo TDI

Not sure where to go after the Z though at the moment... It just does everything I want too well! I can only see high-end exotica beating it in terms of smiles, but at what cost....?

Passed July 2004

Parents' cars for a couple of years
Bought a 1.4 Fiesta diesel in May 07
Mazda RX-8 (231PS) in Feb 09
Audi A3 S-Line 2.0 TDI in May 09
BMW Z4 3.0 in late July 09

Just bought a house, so changes are on ice for a while  :(

Seems to be a pretty wide variation in terms of how "performance orientated" peoples previous cars were. Mine is mixture of cars I actually wanted and ones that (reluctantly) made financial sense. Passed my test in 1995 and got:

1995 Nissan Micra (1989)
1997 Mitsubishi Colt GLXi (1995)
2002 Seat Toledo (1999)
2004 BMW 316i (2002)
2004 BMW 320d (2004)
2006 Mazda RX8 (2005)
2007 BMW 325i MSport (2006)
2009 BMW Z1 (1989)
2010 BMW Z4MC (2008)

Still have the Z1, fun to drive if a little "sensibly" powered and loving the z4 for the power, handling and noise.

Well my first post goes against a list of previous bangers - gotta start somewhere I s'pose.

1994 - License obtained
1994 - 89(F) Rover Mini Jet Black - later modified with RC40 exhaust and Hi-Lo's.
1995 - 94(M) Peugeot 106 XT - met a tree (rear wheel left car due to faulty wheel bolt - nice)
1996 - 95(N) Peugeot 106 - shared with my mum - (come on be fair, i was at uni and skint)
1997 - 90(H) VW Polo mk2 (with Mk3 interior inc dash, Golf GTi brakes, Pioneer ICE & Golf GTi steels)
1999 - 99(S) Citroen Saxo VTR - Green filter, custom exhaust, harnesses & Audiobahn ICE - 152dB (ended up on its roof in a tree - pattern emerging here? - speeding, roundabout and oil not a good mix!)
2003 - 90(J) Nissan 200SX Turbo - T28 conversion, T5 intercooler, polybushed, 300ZX MAF,chipped and approx 250hp
2004 - 00(V) Imported Gen 7 Celica TRD special - looked like the batmobil
2005 - 04(04) Peugeot 206 GTi 110 HDI - economical - shite build quality. Owned it 9 months - 6 months spent at dealers!
2006 - 94(M) Imported Honda Prelude VTEC Gen4 - mint car - still got it. 250hp, stripped out, with lightweights wheels, big brakes, Koni yellow's & Eibach race springs, Skunk2 Racing exhuast, TB, inlet & exh manifold (119dB @ 9K rpm) - mental machine.
2007 - 95(N) Imported Honda Prelude - CAT D - prepped for track day use. Then had horrific accident - some pillock fell asleep behind his wheel and hit me at 70mph when I was stationary - git. - later broken and sold off for a large profit :)
2007 - 99(S) Audi A4 Quattro Avant 2.8V6 - great load lugger, but more serious drinking problem than Mel Gibson! got vandalised and later sold on Fleabay.
2007 - 02(02) Audi A2 Sport - truly a terrific car for short journeys and lugging two labradors around in esp with panoramic roof.
2010 - 07(07) BMW Z4MC in sapphire balck, champagne ext nappa, piano black int, nav, CD, Ipod (intravee2), 9K mls - stunning machine in everyway. Its just a pity that friends have to queue up for rides! Just getting to learn it at the moment.

Not planning any performance or styling mods for some time. I want to enjoy it as it is, but might do something along the SQA+ route for the ICE (standard 6 speakers are good for what they are, but fairly crummy compared to my JL Audio kit.)

P.s - only mod I might do once the BMW wty has expired is get rid of that damned CDV!

Great site that certainly has some great supporters.

Mike

Only owned a few:

March 2005 - Aged 19 - 2000 Citroen Saxo Furio 1.4i - First car so loved it. Slow but chuckable and cheap to repair unlike my next car. Kept for longer than planned so i could afford....

March 2008 - Aged 22 - 2004 Alfa Romeo 147 GTA - Always wanted one since i first saw it in magazines. Sounded amazing, especially after changing the exhaust, really quick and absolutely beautiful inside and out. Things kept going wrong and it cost a fortune in fuel (averaged 21-22mpg). Still want another one though. Just need to get one that has been well looked after.

March 2010 - Aged 24 - 2006 BMW Z4 M Coupe - Never been particularly into BMWs really and didn't really understand why they were rated so highly, though loved the shape of the MC. Now i realise what they are about. The engine is phenomenal, it looks great and i really like the steeering, though gearbox can be a bit fiddly. Makes it all the better when you manage a perfect gearchange. Amazing how it just keeps going and going. I thought my Alfa was quick and have driven some other fast stuff, Caymans etc. but this really is amazing. I love it.

I've had a long history of sheds due to spending six impoverished years at uni up to 2002:

1994 Mk I Fiesta 1.1 (died on its roof in a country lane)
1994 Fiat Uno 60S (died of gearbox failure)
1997 Citroen AX (girlfriend's car - she took it with her)
1998 Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia (died of gearbox failure)
2000 Escort 1.8 TD (died from catastrophic loss of water on M4)
2003 Westfield SE widebody (died from high speed lamp post and crash barrier-related injuries)
2003 Peugeot 306 XSi (enormous fun; first car I ever sold)
2003 Westfield SE widebody (still own - see below)
2005 Audi TT 225 coupe (awful car - traded)
2009 Z4MC (still own)
2010 BMW 320 TD SE (purchased a few weeks ago solely for commuting 100 miles a day for the next year)

Blimey, that's 19 cars in 8 years. So do you change more than once every 6 months? I hope the Z4M stays a little longer, especially one as lovely as yours now is.

ive owned this z4 from new, this will be staying for along time ;-) but the r5 turbo 2, cosworth & fq400 were owned at the same time, ownership has overlapsed with other cars, sometimes ive owned a good few at one time, so changing every 6 months wasnt really happening, or it didnt feel like it at the time at least.... man ive had some fun with these cars.

Do you still run the GTR? Its one of those cars that fascinates me, love to know what all the fuss is about!

no i sold it to my dad............... absolutly gutted, i owned it along with the ///m and my Daily driver and the costs were just to high, i genuinely cost more than my house to run, crazy crazy running costs, amazing car but has many issues and the dealer support is shopping, luckily i live near lichfield imports who can do servcing for a decent price, the speed and the way the thing drives blew me away......utimately my z4m offered my more of a thrill for far less outlay and isnt much slower than a stock one, on my local sprint track times are very similar. the z4m will be a very difficult car to part with, its like brand spankers, i think it must be one of kind here in the uk, its my true pride and joy.
