Car hire overseas

Motorists warned about problems hiring cars abroad.

Motorists going abroad after 8 June are being warned they will need to take a special code with them if they want to hire a car.

From that date the paper counterpart of UK driving licences - which records endorsements and fines - is being computerised.

only our country could make such a clusterfcuk of something as simple as a driving license :headbang:

I hired a motor in america recently they didnt ask to see the paper part of my licence just the card part a credit card and my passport

Why? :headbang:

Luckily I haven't changed address since before the two-part picture/paper licence came in so am still on the old green paper-only licence complete with the endorsements panel (still clean touch wood). I keep expecting this old-old style licence to be withdrawn but fortunately not so far :)

/\ /\ This

More bureaucratic shyte to deal with! The world's going mad, I'm so glad I'm nearer to my grave than my cradle and won't live see the end result of all this crap.

in practice rental agencies abroad tend not to know of the counterpart or how the licencing even works in the UK and take your plastic and card and passport..

So this is what the collective talent at DVLA comes up with and to think we pay these idiots a salary!
I'm afraid we all took our eye of the ball and the loonies really do now run the asylum.

Except this a complete non-story and scaremongering by the press.

Have rented at least 10 cars a year for the last 20 years all over the world (including just last week in Spain) and have NEVER been asked for the counterpart!
