Car hire.. holiday autos?

Heading to south of france, going to hire a car - anybody any tales of woo/excellence of holiday autos? too cheap to be true??
 
I travel the world on business, have a place in Spain and hire a car every couple of weeks.
Pitfalls of cheap rental companies:
Cars are older and high mileage with tired dirty interiors
You book a Focus and get an old Hyundai of the same group....
They sell you a tankful of fuel at very high rates and don't refund any left over
They insist on extra insurance or take up to €500 deposit. Getting it back can be hard
You have to photo every inch of the car before and after and seek a signature all is well, else you'll find a charge on your credit card
The queue is always long as the price attracts more hirers and they have less staff.
They are parked in the furthest away from the airport - think 1/2 mile walk or a bus ride.

Morale is I pay a few quid extra and alway hire Hertz, Avis or Enterpirse. I arrive at airports. Car is brand new, clean, ready, close and no insurance or dent issues.

I always use Netflights for flight tickets and car hire. Simple, well priced and they only use reputable companies. I have found them cheaper than going directly to the car hire company themselves.

I have used holiday autos about four or five times

Mostly OK with cars from Hertz and other major companies had a dodgy experience in Dublin with them but it was more a disorganised local branch (Sixt) than a crappy small time hire co

Have somehow managed to get a Hertz rental via my HSBC account for 200 euros instead of 330. Although once I booked it I noticed it thought I was on the Hong Kong website and not the UK one. :o

Might just ring them to check that its right!

Sign up as a Hertz Gold member. Costs nothing and the car will be waiting, keys in an envelope and priority line with you likely the only one in the line. You can check and manage the reservation on line too.
