I bought some new high impact plastic ramps for my car on the weekend. and went to test if the z4 fits on them. which it did, with a good 3mm to spare :P
and I noticed the RHS (drivers side) of the car is about 0.5-1cm lower than the passenger side at the front. so I checked the back and the same there too.

Is this normal? or could I have broken 2 springs on the same side? seems unusual that the drivers side sits lower to me...

... but can you give some more info on the ramps? How much? Where from? Finding ramps that will fit sports cars is a pain! :roll:
 
I know. 1st pair i've ever seen fit. I got them from Autobarn - they are $99 for a pair atm - but maybe not for long.

they are made of black plastic - and I can pick them both up with 2 fingers, which is nice. rated to 1.5 tonne each IIRC. the gap between my bumper and ramp at the start of ramp - is like 3-5mm, but it clears it just and gets up, which raises car about 20cm, and I got under, plenty of room to check my oil drain plug etc.

as a bonus - they work great as mini ramps/ jumps for practicing my MTB skills... 8)
 
Nice! But I dunno for that price I can't help but feel like I'm better tracking down a decent low profile jack. 20cm isn't that much extra gap so it sounds like it would still be a bit of a squeeze under there (and I'm skinny)...
 
lol well 20cm is my guestimate + the height from wheel to car bottom is at least another 12-15cm - but i'm not skinny and I fit under easy, with room to work. reversed up the ramp too, so I can try move the fuel filter etc, to make way for a quad exhaust, and there is heeps of room at the back.

Jacks are good, I just find ramps more convienient, and I feel safer under the car when its on ramps (must be in my head). I have a jack & Jackstands but the ramps are much quicker to set up.
 
Yeah that's a good point about speed. I guess it's horses for courses though: ramps for working under the car, jacks for removing wheels...
