im generating a list of stuff i want to get checked/replaced on the car. things like the suspension bushes etc (any other stuff i should add?)

my car has always had a sort of rattle and cough after its turned off.

so turn the keys engine stops, screen closes. as the engine turns over the last time with the ignition going off (it doesnt run on by the way) i get a sort of rattle, sounds very much like a rattly clutch release bearing.

a good second or so after the ignition is off it sort of coughs. i would say its some sort flap closing or pressure valve relieving pressure. i wondered if its this disa valve or vanos resetting as the car shuts down?

If it's any help, I get the clutch rattle too. If you keep the clutch pressed when you turn off it stops it :-)

Can't say I've noticed the cough though :-S

The 'sneeze' came up a couple of years ago, apparently it's a shot of air to clean the MAFF,

ahh good, nothing to worry about there then. yeah deffo clutch rattle as like you said ginnge stops with the clutch down

That cough has been the source of many discussions with passengers in my car

The rattle sounds a bit dodgy! Hope it's nothing serious.

The "clutch rattle" is the gearbox mainshaft, that's why it stops when you depress the clutch-it can be machined to stop it for about a grand but it will still return in time so seems a little pointless

So long as the box is good for another 30-40k then ill put up with the rattle :)

A grand will get me a new gears set for the fun car
