Car failed on emissions.....how good is Cataclean???

2005 2.0i failed MOT on emissions on idle.

Been told to use Cataclean then return having also ran the car 'hot' for 20minutes or so.

Has anybody used this, and how much does it alter the figures?

Not sure about cataclean but is the oil new and spark plugs recent. Also what about the air filter.

[ref]Jock156[/ref] just had exactly the same issue. Garage ran cataclean through it and took it for a good blast but no joy. He's now pricing up a new exhaust system. :cry:
 
Mike6 mine is 2 litre too. Tried Cataclean, no joy, Cat was fecked.

Can’t source a new one anywhere (priced within reason) and few second hand ones no guarantee on mileage.

So a new exhaust was on the plans next year, so this has sort of forced my hand.

Hope it’s not your Cat! If it is let me know as I sourced 2 SH from reliable sources :thumbsup:
 
A different issue but my 2nd 3.0Si threw up an Amber EML. Fault codes were for both banks of post-cat O2 sensors. Gave Cataclean a try and the codes didn't reappear thankfully. :D

I'd try it - it's a cheap fix if it works!
 
I'm not familiar with Cataclean, but a good injector cleaner like Techron(R) can sometimes postpone need for new cats on an older engine. Not necessarily by cleaning the cats, but by cleaning up the engine operation enough so the limited capacity of the cats in not overtaxed. My M54-engine 3-Series at > 200K miles responded well to Techron(R) concentrate treatment, and downstream O2 codes went away. If Cataclean functions similarly, it's got a shot.

It's in tomorrow for a re-test so I'll know then. Is there any after market exhausts worth putting on these? Not too worried about more performance etc but I also know they're hard to source.

They're all good. It's the same garage that serviced it doing the MOT so they know the car. I'll find out tomorrow when they re do the emissions.
