Car Cover Question

So I've been using my Buzztop for a few months now and it's really great. Keeps the muck off the hood and stops the rain pouring into where the roof motor lives. This means I sleep a little more soundly at night.

This morning I had no scraping or de-icing to contend with as the screen and hood were all ice free.

However when I whipped the cover off I put it on the fence to de-frost.
What do you guys do with your covers when not in use if they are wet? hang them in the garage or somewhere else?

Also, if you then come home and the roof is wet do you put the cover on still or leave it off? I'm a little concerned that I may be doing more harm than good...

If it's dry then I fold it up, put it in the boot or garage and then just put it back on again when I get home. Easy peasy!

Any info/thoughts (as always) greatly appreciated.

This s a very good question which I would love to see other peoples views I personally put mine in the downstairs toilet if wet turn it inside out and make a sort of bowl shape then pour out when I get home after work.
I used to put it in the boot when dry or a little damp, but soon stopped that when noticed condensation on the underside of boot lid. Don't want to reck the battery.

As for putting on when roof is wet I do after Driving home from somewhere but if it's too wet I don't.

I put mine in the shed, and I'm not fussed if it is still damp or not when I refit it, it's main job is to keep water (lots of it) off of the roof and the drains. A little bit of surface damp is of no concern, it gets taken off every day so no chance of mould or smells.

The only time I don't refit it wet or to a wet car is if there is a chance of frost, as it will stick to the car. I found this out a few weeks back and won't be making that mistake again.

If it's wet or raining my cover gets placed over the garden furniture to dry out.

I place the cover on even if the roof is wet or it's raining - I simply dry the roof off as best I can with a microfiber cloth then fit the cover. If raining you can dry half off and place the cover over this half whilst you dry the other half and pull the cover over. . . . simples!

If dry it gets folded up and placed in the boot.

I've recently had a new roof fitted under warranty and was prepared to pay for a new motor if it was found to be in poor condition when the roof work was being done. BMW rang me to say the motor was dry and in perfect condition and advised me there was no need to replace as they never go wrong unless they get wet and corrode. I requested a photo and you can see the motor was indeed like new. I like to think it's using the half cover that's helped keep it like this.

of its life - do you know how the car was stored before you got it Paul - was it stored in a garage or did the previous owner use the cover ?

Nice pic of the motor I thought it was supposed to be covered (bonded) in polystyrene to keep damp out, correct me please if I got it wrong, cheers Baz
