Car Choice

A friend is looking for a new car and the two she has in mind are :- A Ford Focus or a BMW 1 Series

The Focus is a 1.0 Titanium X with all the bells and whistles whilst the BMW 118i is £2k more expensive but with similar spec.
My choice would be the BMW as it does seem well put together but has anybody had any experience of either car that i could pass on please?
 
Are these brand new Ron? difficult choice to be honest as the Focus is generally and good overall car, unsure how the 1.0 would fare in a larger bodied car, maybe better in the Fiesta. 1 Series will be better quality and rear wheel drive would appeal more but more tricky in winter. The coils were a problem on the 118is but I think newer models should be ok now. Its down to the test drive really.

No experience of the Ford, but I did have a 118i Sport F20 as a courtesy car and I really liked it. Seemed like a quality product, drove well and was pretty quick.

Really thought about buying one to replace my E87 123D, but then I tried an E86! :lol:

The rest is history!

Yes both brand new out of the box.
The 1.0l (125bhp) Ford £130 ved
The 1.5l (136bhp) Bmw £30 ved

The BMW is £2k more expensive.
In my mind there's no problems in choosing - Bmw !
 
my best mate has a 16 plate 118i in alpine white. its the base model and its pretty sparse in terms of spec. No support in the seats, tiny 16 inch wheels, no parking sensor, no steering wheel controls. stuff that would be given on the focus.

Its not that economical either for a 3 cylinder petrol, avarages around 32-34mpg urban. Its nippy as said above, but would be tempted with the focus.

Personally would go BMW everytime, the Ford interiors I find depressing and cheapo so a non starter really, but everyones different :)

choice is mainly about driving position/feel of the car in the first place.
if he/she is a petrolhead then RWD over FWD. if he/she is "just" a regular driver then it doesn't matter & is all about taste & practical (storage in the back, backseat, those boring things...)
 
One thing to note is that the focus is due a full refresh for 2018. This may or may not bother your friend as within 12 months they would no longer be driving the latest model? The 1 series I believe only had a facelift very recently (judging by my neighbour who has just had a 66 plate and it is a different shape to her previous relatively new one)
There are deals to be had with BMW try, Peter Vardy (where I had my X3 from) Fraser there looked after us really well. I believe Ocean BMW are meant to be good for deals to, although I have no experience of them.

For these figures to have any effect they will have to make their mind up soon. Is the £30 ved not disappearing at the end of the month?
I dont understand the Fords ved either, a mate just bought a 2014 Focus 1.7 diesel and its £20 ved :?

Yes you're correct the cheapo rates are gone at the end of March.
All £140 with penalties for anything nice!
