Car broken into this morning

So I left the house this morning to find both doors open of my e85 and glovebox/cubby rifled through and sun visor down.

Fortunately nothing was taken as I don't keep anything in that car and there was no damage to the car at all. New pioneer stereo even completely untouched.

Initially thought it was just an opportunistic junkie looking for some cash however I found out this evening that 5 other cars in my street were done too. None of them forced entry. I religiously check both cars are locked before bed each night as does my neighbour so perplexed as to what's happened.

Can thieves open cars without keys? Is there anything I should be doing now? Reprogramming?

they can increase the range of the remote key and unlock the cars that way.. which is why I've got CCTV on both of our cars

In an old car from the 80s maybe, but modern cars have dreadlocks so you can't unlock them from inside if the alarm/ security system has been enabled.

Sounds more feasible that someone has been hanging around your street and capturing remote control signals to then clone the signal to unlock the cars. You'd hope this isn't an easy thing to do but apparently it can happen at least with some cars.

What were the other vehicles involved? Nearly new or older tech like the E85/E86?

Not something anyone wants to happen to their motor so I hope you are able to identify how they got in and take steps to avoid a recurrence but I couldn't help smiling at the thought of dreadlocks attached to your Zed

Funnily enough almost all German. My 04, an 08 Golf, a 55 Polo and an 11 3 series.

Yeah it's a real pisser . I got off lightly though with no damage and nothing stolen. Others weren't quite so lucky!
