Car breakdown??

I was driving on the motorway and suddenly the little radio screen started to flash 5-6 times, then it went normal, then suddenly the car turned completely off, everything went black, all electronics, 2 seconds later handbrake, anti spin, DSC turned on, then next second everything went back! What the **** happened?? I'm scared to drive the car now!!

I remember the 3.0 SMG I had did this. It was a baking hot day though.

Everything flashed then the car shutdown. It was a one off thankfully.

I've seen similar with failure of batteries. Check it's not got a cell out and as above the terminals are tight and clean.

If they are OK I'd be looking for a loose connection in one of the major loom connectors, but that might need diagnostics to trace it.

Simn, take your battery to Halfords, they do a free battery test

Thanks for the tip but I don't live in the UK! :(
Any specialist battery retailer should offer free tests (in the hope that if it fails you will buy the replacement from them). They do here in Oz.

Right, probably almost universal. Maybe I'm just paranoid. I'm a bit sceptical when the outfit doing the testing has incentive for the test to fail. It wouldn't be too hard to rig a tester to be much harder on a battery than is reasonably called for.

Any major chain is probably fine. The bloke in a back alley shop where you wouldn't want to buy a battery from anyway is the one to watch out for.

I had this "car battery analyzer" home, it's a small thing u put in the cigarette lighter socket and it said the battery was weak! Gonna buy a new one tomorrow :( about 100€, expensive!

At least you know what the problem is.

100€? You could just buy a new battery for that. Why not just do a voltage test and see what you get with engine on and off?

I think he means the battery is 100 Euros :D

Makes a lot more sense than my nonsense read of it

About the same price as I paid for a battery a month ago.
