Car back after service - damaged!!!!!!

Z4 was in for its annual service at local BMW main dealer.
Its an 04 plate car with only 30k miles and full BMW history.
I tend not to use the car too often in winter if possible, it's not the best in the snow and I'm always scared of it getting damaged.
I have an old Mercedes Vito van that's up to it's purpose of general hack.
When I went to pick up the car, I was told the mechanic had slipped and fell against the front wing causing a dent.
It's pretty visible - not any chance of hiding it.
The car is metallic silver so it won't be a simple case of painting the repair. I'm also concerned a couple of years down the road - the repair is visable.
I have been asked to pay a visit tomorrow to my local VW dealer who have a paintshop that is BMW approved.
I visited a paintshop a while back in relation to a mark in the bonnet. The mark was polished out no problem but at the time was told to get a perfect colour match, they would need to paint the bonnet and both sides of the car!!!!
Basically I'm pretty pfd off tonight and looking for any advice.

on the plus side - at least they owned up to it and didnt wait until you saw it...
 
Accidents happen, they admited it and it will be fixed properly.
I doubt there are many 04's on the road without at least one panel repaired, replaced or stone chip resprayed, so no big deal really.

To do a proper job they should replace or repair then spray the whole wing and then blend in over the bonnet and door.

Just talk to them, get a loaner car and get it fixed to your satisfaction
 
You're lucky they're honest and owned up. You get sooo many people on the forum being peed off by dealers/garages who've damaged their cars and then not owning up.
 
Been used to driving £1000 supercars for too long now - a dent would be seen as character!!!

No chance of the dealer not putting his hand up though - its that visible and right on the upper fold of the wing.
 
Very sorry to hear this, it's why I did all the work on my last car, but it was an old highly modified MR2. Unfortunately now I need to keep the service booked stamped.

Depending on how bad the dent is, I'd:

a) Insist on a new wing - I've had a wing repaired before and it's never as new
b) Get them to agree on giving you a free service when the next one is due

That's what I would do anyway.
 
Yeah, bad news but like CJ10jeeper said, no big deal considering they owned up. One thing you should be entitled to though is a like-for-like (or better) loaner while they fix it. It should only take a couple of days though.
 
Just back from the body shop.
3-4 days to carry out the repair - after repair, the whole side of the car will require painting.

Sounds about right, however I'd be expecting them to blend it in across the bonnet rather than leave a harsh transition at the cut line.
Of course there's nothing to stop you nipping to a local accident repair specialist for a quote and seeing exactly what they would recommend doing. after all they'll quote you a proper job regardless of the cost.
 
Wonder if its worth asking a dent guy to have ago first? If theres no damage to the paint and he can get behind the panel i dont see why it wont come out.

Might be better than a respray.
