Car alarm

Having picked up my brand new Z4 last week it is driving me insane today.

It is currently parked in the car park at work. I admit it is a rather windy day but the alarm keeps going off every half hour or so.

Has anyone had a similar experience on windy days or any other similar issues with the alarm going off for no reason.

Yes it's likely to be the bonnet sensor. Drove me mad too. Think you can disconnect it for now, and the new sensor is not too expensive (£15?)

Had a similar experience with mine, kept going off in wet/windy weather, the dealers fixed it by foil wrapping some sensors in the doors irc, hope this might help.

This has happened to me twice since beginning of December 2012 when we picked up the car - both times at about 4am in wind and rain. The neighbours love our new car...
As it has only happened twice I have not bothered to get it looked at. But just noticed the weather today no doubt the car is beeping in our drive as I type.

ps you can disable the motion sensors by pressing the lock button on the remote again within 10 seconds of locking. I have used that function as a temporary fix. I think some of the other sensors remain on so the car is not too vulnerable!

And you can confirm you've done it correctly by watching the red flashing alarm light that hangs under the rear view mirror.

When you arm the alarm, the red light starts flashing.

If you press the lock button on the remote a 2nd time within the specified time, then the red light stays on solid for a few seconds, then returns to flashing.

Not sure what it disables, but deco disables the interior movement sensors as we do this on our 1'er when the dogs are in the car and we need to leave them in there (i.e. when picking up the chinese takeaway!)/

Interior motion sensors and the Tilt sensors - Use the alarm in this state on ferries etc. (nobody will tow the car away from the car deck while at sea!)

Well I took the car to Harrogate BMW today. After looking at it they decided the alarm was going off because the battery is damaged.
According to their checks it was not charged for a month prior to me buying it (new). They are speaking to the dealer I bought the car from to make sure they will pay for a battery. As it was their fault the BMW warranty will not cover it.

Not sure if it helps, but I had a Clifford alarm once on a car (not BMW) that started to play up and it was indeed the car battery that was at fault. Replaced car battery and all was well.

+1 haven't had a problem with mine since this was done :)

Just had mine do exactly this for the 2nd time in as many weeks.

It is absolutely chucking it down outside at the moment.

Think a trip to the dealer next week might be in order!

Mine needs to go back as well. Despite the new battery the alarm goes off if it rains.

I have a smart top fitted and if I double tap the remote the car locks, the wing mirrors fold in and the interior alarm is disabled. Therefore I know so long as the mirrors are folded in my alarm won't suddenly go off when it rains.

I've been putting off a trip to the dealers as I'm worried their fixing of the problem which involves trim removal might cause some rattles.

Mine went off today when it started raining. Done it in the past also in the rain.

Mines a Sep 2012 build.....shouldn't the "foil" fix be done already?

I had mine done a while ago - I'm told nothing more than a sheet of Tesco's tin foil in the correct place - I is supposed to reduce the sensitivity of a sensor in the door panel.

As my car is normally garaged, its only when away on holiday that it gets heavily rained on - so I wait and hope!

Mine too. Glad to find I am not alone. Will take it in when it goes for a service to get the alarm and whining noise sorted.

Got mine booked in with the dealer week after next (soonest they could fit me in and give me a loan car!!) to have the alarm sorted and also the whining fuel pump done.
