Can't wait to take Delivery

Hello to all,

I have just seen my new z4 on the trailer outside the dealer (benefits of working right next to one ;)) and it's really started to get me excited about getting in and driving it everywhere. So much so that I've spent the last 2 hours browsing around on this forum.

Just like to say that you all seem really nice and you haven't helped at all to get my mind off my new car!

Two things I did want to know, how long does it take from arrival at the dealer to actual delivery and is there a run in time on the new Z4's?

Not sure how long actual delivery takes--I bought mine year end close out and it had sat for almost a year (lots of bells and whistles). Shouldn't take long, though.

As to run in, you don't have to be too careful, but for the first thousand or so,you have to bed in the brakes/rotors and get the "new" off the tires. There is no break-in oil change for non ///Ms. Read the manual-sitting in the car is more fun while doing so. Despite all us old folk saying we don't like the new Z, remember it's relative to ours. You'll love it and enjoy driving it to no end.

Thanks for the welcome,

I've called the dealer just to double check that the car that I saw was actually mine ... but no answer. Might pop in before they close at 6. While this might not be my car, some pictures for you all:

I'm pretty confident that it is mine; a week early but all the specs seem right. Why do the days seem to be going by slower now that I know it's waiting just around the corner for me :(

[EDIT] : sorry about the rotation, might get a chance to tweek them when my boss isn't looking :p

If I can remember them all:

sDrive23i
Metalic Black
Red Leather
Turbine Alloys
Folding Mirrors
Extended Storage
USB Interface
Auto Lights / Wipers
Wind Deflector
Brushed Aluminum Trim

Cheadle, that was the same spec that the dealer had (colour wise) and I just feel in love with it. I actually put by deposit down within the first hour of seeing it :p. Still no news back from them and I've been too busy at work to drop in :(

The wait goes on

Update:

Had a call from the dealer today; said that the car should be arriving tomorrow. Seems that the car I saw last week wasn't mine. Oh well, will have to keep an eye out the window during the day. The good news is that I will be able to pick the car up 5pm on Friday. Looking forward to having it for this weekend :D

*checks the weather* to see if it will be top up or top down driving.

Sounds great, bet you can't wait.

Remember the pics on Friday, don't be out driving it before we've all seen it :poke:

Funny if it's identical.. obviously a good choice.

Have to say it does look fantastic, I'm trying to ignore but the jealousy is starting to creep in slightly !

Welcome to the forum, we need good contributors for the E89 so hopefully you'll be a pioneer!

Welcome!

BMW dealers usually take a few days doing delivery checks and preps. The wait is agonising - I had it with my MCS JCW 3 years ago and it nearly killed me. Go and buy this months "performance car" - there's a decent write up of the very car you're about to own, which should eat at least 5 minutes of your wait

Wooooo. I have a new Z4. Drove it around a little last night and LOVE it. The sound is fantastic and I have a smile from ear to ear whenever I go under a bridge or through a tunnel.

One question if you wouldn't mind: I'm thnking about getting some tyre insurance. Was wondering what you think about it? The policy is for a maximum of £250 per tyre, and up to 5 tyres through the policy. It doesn't cover wear and tear but does cover accidental dammage and punctures. How often do these run flats pick up punctures and am I likely to make at least 2 claims over 4 years?

Thanks

P.S. Pictures to come when I take some better ones. Damn camera changing its ISO without me noticing
P.P.S NEW CAR :D

woohoo :D

Tyre insurance.... how many miles you do? Where do you drive (near any building sites)? How many punctures you had in the last 4 years? Dont think runflats are prone to picking up more punctures than non runflat TBH - why would they?

looking forward to the piccies :D

glad to know the new car induces the same grins as the old one :D

The tyre insurance depends on two things: 1) how much it costs; 2) how often you're going to use it.

The price is negotiable, so if you can get a really good price on it and are going to do a good few miles (I do 20,000+ a year), then it's probably going to pay for itself.

I had one claim 8 days after buying the car, and I hit a submerged pothole (just in front of a speed-ramp) - one new 19" Michelin PS2 was ordered, I was taken to the closest BMW dealer and I was dropped off at work. Unfortunately because the dealer didn't have the tyre in stock, I had to wait 3 days to get the car back!!!
