Can't remove alternator

Hi all,

Trying to remove the alternator. I've followed multiple guides and have all the bolts, connectors and the belt off but I cannot remove the alternator.

I can sorta wiggle it a little bit but it feels like it's rotating around something at the bottom end. It has almost cleared the top mount where the long bolt goes but I just cannot remove it.
All the guides say 'wiggle it a bit'. I've been pushing and pulling for an hour with no luck.

Any ideas?

It’s likely the bottom joints are tight

Get a bar and some leverage to the right it should come off

Once done reinsert the bottom bolt and drift it back out a few mm

Yeah, I got it. Eventually. Got frustrated and wanted some forum input but ended up using two wrenches to act as a pry bar. Did the trick but it was indeed the lower end. Thankfully the refurb one I have has been reset!

Do you know what the torque is for the two long bolts in it by any chance mate? I've read somehwere they're aluminium and not reusable. I don't imagine this is a massive issue if I reuse them for now they're going to have to go back in as I have no alternative.

It's worth investing in a decent set of pry bars. They come in handy for all sorts of jobs where a bit of 'persuasion' is required. I also dressed the aluminium mating faces on the alternator with a fine file last time I removed it  115525-0_1000x.jpg

Essential for roof relocations too!

Whereabouts do you relocate a roof to Stu ? Surely it's in the ideal location ?

I have a coupe now

So maybe a relocation of the roof is needed!

Thanks for the input all.
I definitely should invest in a pry bar but two wrenches did the trick too!

I'll need to go in tomorrow with the torque wrench as I tightened them down to feel but good to know I can reuse them without issue.
Wasn't too bad of a job in the end!

Don't get me started on the roof though. Tempted to pick up a new one since mine is still leaking!
