Can't manually drop roof, Help needed please!

Guys be careful pushing and pulling on the roof ! I had problem with my motor and on checking with the previous owner a bmw garage (had forced the roof up after the motor packed in) to get the car home so it could be repaired by another garage under warranty - the y had damaged both hinges which left a £800 repair bill - be careful !
 
Yes, thats why I'm a bit reluctant to force it down. So I am trying the remove the roof as is. Problem at the moment is getting the seal off!
 
The wind deflector (if it's oem) should not need to be removed, the hood clears it as it's below the top of the hoops.
 
Thats what I was thinking also in regards to the wind deflector. I think its just the the bypass valve on the motor isn't working.
