seems counter-intuitive but try tightening very slightly before loosening. Then try to loosen.

Leverage is your friend, find a way to lengthen the wheel brace/socket to increase your mechanical advantage

I had one fall apart a few years ago while tightening the bolt.
I managed to get the bolt out by hammering the top of the locking wheel bolt back on and then removed the rest and put them in the bin.
These were genuine BMW locking wheel bolts.

You could try these https://www.toolstation.com/irwin-bolt-grip-nut-remover-set/p63045

I bought a set for our Zafira as the locking nut rounded of and kept slipping but found the Zafira nut had a hardened steel slip ring so even if I had got one on I would have still not turned the actual nut, I ended up getting a industrial grade Impact wrench (520NM) and putting as much pressure on and eventually I rattled it off

I have an old washing line in my shed (steel) that I cut in half and use as a breaker bar for such emergencies.

In terms of your locking wheel nut key- if it gives in I have used a cheap socket from halfords that just slightly smaller than your u nut and bang it onto the nut with a hammer and then use your breaker bar to get it off.

I had this issue with a car that I had bought previously- I had to hammer it onto all 4 wheels to remove them. After the 1st one you get the hang of it!

I don't know if the above method will work on a Z? I haven't looked at my wheel nuts but I am sure someone could advise?

The BMW lock nuts have this slip ring too! had this issue a couple of months ago. The bodyshop over tightened the lock nuts using an impact wrench so I took the car back to them to sort out. They had to weld a socket on top off the lock nut and wrench it off, they damaged the wheel in the process but repaired it afterwards back to as new!

That looks completely different to my locking wheel nut. Maybe the previous owner used non genuine ones?

It is the original BMW key but from the photo it looks like it has come apart in two pieces which is what I think the OP means.

That's the locking nut (the part that goes in the wheel) which has come apart? which means the slip ring around the nut is off? In this case you can simply hammer on a socket just slightly larger and then wrench it off. I saw a video on YouTube about showing this exact scenario. Let me see if I can find it.

Whenever you get any sticking bolts spray them with penetrant spray or diesel fuel and leave them for a good while to let the spray penetrate the length of the thread to permit the corrosion which is keeping them jammed to soften which will then permit the bolt to rotate.

If you've got one of those cheap wheel bolt spanners with an expandable arm, use it at its full length and if possible put a length of steel tubing over the arm to lengthen the lever. Good luck.
