Can’t get in

Hi everyone.
My e89 has been sat on the drive for a while. I cannot get in either through the central locking or the manual key.

Does anyone have any ideas or can help me.

Thanks in advance.

The car not unlocking with the remote is probably a flat battery either in the car or remote, do you have a 2nd remote?
The remote can be changed from an electric toothbrush charger or a wireless phone charger.
The door lock can become seized, try squirting some lubricating oil in a keeping turning the key from side to side and see if it frees up.
If none of the above work then you may need to change the car battery, easier said than done.
You can open the bonnet by removing the front wheels and arch liner to get access to the bonnet locks, one each side, you may be able to open one and wedge that side of the bonnet up and then do the other side.
Alternatively if you remove the engine under tray you should be able to get to the thick red cable that’s attached to the starter motor, if you can attach a battery charger to it and an earthing point you may be able to get enough power to activate the central locking and open the door and boot.
If you can get into the car with the door lock but can’t open the boot you will need to access the fuse box in the passenger footwell and jump a fuse there.
Here’s a link for that

Hope this helps.

As Chippie said the remove able key in the fob will unlock the car..probably needs a bit of spray cleaner /lube to work it into action.,.usually very stiff due to lack of use..be patient and work it and not force it..

New battery next

Hi. Tried the other key fob. Didn’t work. Tried the mechanical lock loads didn’t work and so I guess it’s a dead battery and no way to access it.

Hi all, I’m having similar problems and hoping someone might be able to help.

I have a 2011 BMW Z4 sDrive23i, and suddenly neither of my key fobs will unlock the car — there’s no response at all. It was working fine the day before.

About 7 months ago, I had a new battery fitted by Halfords, but they said it didn’t need to be registered to the car. I’ve since learned that BMWs do require battery registration, and I’m wondering if that could be the cause — maybe the battery hasn’t been charging correctly and has now gone flat.

I haven’t tried using the physical key to unlock the door yet, as I wasn’t sure if doing that would set off the alarm. If it does go off, does anyone know how I could manually open the boot to disconnect the battery?

Any advice or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated — thanks in advance!

The alarm will still sound so no point disconnecting the battery

Can you use the manual key in the lock?

May be worth putting the key fob on your chin and seeing if that works (old top gear trick!).

Did you try putting wd40 or similar in the lock?

Managed to get in!
The key fob wasn’t working and I couldn’t get in with the key either at first. I sprayed some WD40 into the door lock barrel and worked the key side to side for about 10 minutes. Then I gave it another spray and left it for about half an hour. After that, I tried the key again — and it opened straight away.

Once I got the bonnet open, I connected a battery charger to the under-bonnet jump-start studs. After about 30 minutes, it gave me just enough power (with the charger still connected) to press the unlock button on the fob — and that opened all the doors and the boot so I could finally get to the battery.

Hope this helps someone in a similar situation!

I think that was what we advised !

But glad you worked it out..

Glad you got it, paul1969. Now, I'm going to oil the manual lock and the shafts of both keys, and use use the (wife's) spare for a while.

He's just reporting that he listened to the advice, explained what he did, and then the result.

No need for such smugness and sarcasm.
