Cant get Aux-In to work

Picked up my 2007 Z4 SE last week and found it has the Aux-In, i tired this for the first time today but i cant get it to work. I cant select Aux on the headunit at all, at first i thort it might not come active untill a source is detected but it still doesnt work. Am i doing something wrong, i'm using my iphone with a standard mini-jack to mini-jack cable.

Sounds like a dodgy connection or AUX cable to me.

you still have warranty? I'd take it in for them to sort out...

Yeah its got BMW warranty till 23/03/2010, ive asked them to take a look at it when i have the remote central locking reprogrammed on saturday.

Sounds like the cable is not connected in the radio. The AUX function appears as soon as there is a cable connection at the head unit end. No AUX option, no cable

Finally got round to fixing this myself for 95p. BMW wanted the car left with them to investigate the problem and i dont have the time or money for that right now if they turn round and say its not a warranty issue.

After searching the net i found the wiring diagram for the aux input adapter....



After a trip to maplin for 2x 220nF capacitors and a 300k ohm resistor i knocked up a new cable and it worked first time.

This confused me though as i dont know why it never worked before, all diagrams and info suggest it should have these capacitors and resistor present but there was nothing like that on my car, how did it work before?
