Still using my 450D now after 2 seasons and getting some nice pics i bought the 450D Dummies book which helps you to learn your way around the camera but to be honest i read it for a while a very short while then got bored best way is to use the camera try lots of settings and find what suits you and as already said above when buying lenses that all depends on your subject.
Took this with my 450D+Sigma 120-400 a few weeks ago at Brands Hatch through a fence at Druids

But the quality is out of this world. Twice the size of 35mm a 6x4.5 or 6x7 is probably equivalent to 60-100mp scanned at 3200dpi. I would still shoot film but like I said its expensive and time consuming, although with just 12 shots it teaches you to slow down and really look, and you get incredible images.
