Cannot pair phone - Help please! :)

Morning all, I wanted to start a new topic outside of my car thread.

So my problem is I can't get my Zed to go in to pairing mode to connect my phone, and maybe crucially, I don't have the face button next to the phone cradle, which seems to be mentioned in all pairing topics. Here's the low-down of what I do have, I'd be grateful if anyone can help me sort this out

My Z4 is a 2008 2.5Si

Option fitted to my car from the factory is '0644 Preparation for mobile phone with Bluetooth'

Here's the original phone holder - note no 'face' button

Here's the buttons I have on my steering wheel

Here's what the radio display says when I press the R/T button on the steering wheel

I have tried holding down the R/T button, the face button and both together. I've done this with the ignition on, I've done it before hand then turned the ignition on. I can't think of any other permutation of button pressing but nothing puts the car in pairing mode.

Anyone got the same setup as me and successfully paired their phone??

Thanks in advance.

Hi, sorry I can't send the actual link, but if you search in this forum, it was covered in detail only about 5 or 6 weeks ago.

I do recall a recent thread - I've read a few - but from memory all advice was around having that 'face' button on the phone cradle in the arm rest, which mine doesn't have.

Yes, you are right, but my recollection regarding this was the procedure and steps involved. If you were to disregard the change of the graphic icon and just follow the steps laid out, does that work?

Here is the link I was thinking of:

Thank you for the link. I had seen that one. It’s recommending pressing the button on the centre console, which is the button I don’t have

Sadly not. Thanks for your help though

Why would you mark a button to release the cradle with a bluetooth icon? Seems a bit odd to me.

I would look for an oem cradle, there is no way you can pair it without the button there. But to be honest the factory is pants anyway...can’t stream music on it. You are better off just fitting an aftermarket dongle...esp as you have aux in.

Aftermarket dongle? Tell me more :D

Just to give you an idea of what's available, you can use something like this, which uses an FM station:
https://ebay.us/UWDKMv
Or this, which connects to the AUX plug:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KON1JIA/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_cxzoFbWK47210
Or, this is what I bought, and couldn't be happier. BT calls, BT audio streaming, steering wheel controls all work (except I haven't tried calls from the steering wheel R/T controls).

Brilliant, thanks for the links. Not crazy money either

I like the look of what you have. Was it easy to fit? Do you lose function of anything, like the CD multi-player? (Not that this would worry me!)

Hmm, so this takes the place of the CD changer, so yes, you lose the CD changer. But, it's easy to fit and does everything as it's supposed to. Music quality is really good.

Ok that’s no big deal. If I got nostalgic about playing CDs I can use the single slot in the dash. Good price for what you get too.

I may well give this a bash. Thanks again for all your help
