Can anyone say Las Vegas?

The Cannonball Run is coming to Las Vegas on August 2, 2007. This is on a Thursday. A group of 400 cars of all makes and attitude will arrive in Las Vegas. On Friday they will caravan to Willow Springs for an awesome display of attitude, then on to Beverly Hills for the party. This should be a wicked event. Here is the link to the website, click at the bottom for more information.

What I would like to see happen, is to have people in the four eastern cities cover the start. Then anyone that would like to go to Las Vegas on Thursday and watch them come in. I will be attending this event both days. I like to get information out so that people can plan for this. THIS IS A DON'T MISS EVENT.

The GUMBALL 3000 RALLY last year was bitch’n. Cars, women ( PC and guys )and lots of attitude when they arrive and depart. Willow Spring already has it on their calendar for two courses, the 2.5 mile and Streets of Willow

Here is the e-mail I received.

Greetings!

The Cannonball World Series has today announced that entrants signing up for July’s Great American Run will have the chance to walk away with the largest prize in road racing – a cool $1 million.
Already set to be one of the greatest car events of the decade, the stateside spectacular will see this year’s winner take home a brand new limited edition Saleen ‘Bad Boy’ Mustang and automatic entrance into next year’s rally. The one million dollar fund will be paid out to the winner of the 2008 epic.
“We still have a few spaces remaining for drivers and teams wishing to take part in this summer’s road rally,” confirms Tim Porter, event organiser. “The victorious pairing will be granted admission to defend their crown next year and earn their shot at our mammoth prize fund.”
The largest ever cash reward offered for non-professional drivers, the Great American Run million dollar bounty is destined for the competitor successfully navigating more than three thousand miles of the American road network in the time closest to the benchmark set by the Cannonball World Series Events crew.
Based on the legendary Hollywood movie, the Great American Run follows the same format as the ultra-successful European Cannonball Run. With four starting cities, four hundred muscle cars and a six day drive, entrants slug it out on a coast to coast cavalcade which takes them through some of the finest scenery in the United States.
“The Great American Run is set to follow in the wheel tracks of some of the most epic car rallies seen on European tarmac,” says Tim Porter. “Larger than life with muscle cars and show cars, entrepreneurs and life-long friends, it’s not the taking part that counts in the Great American Run, it’s the spirit with which you compete!”
The 2007 Great American Run begins on July 29 in Miami, FL; Atlanta, GA; Washington D.C. and New York City, NY. One hundred drivers will set off from each destination before converging in Las Vegas. Following an all-comers high-octane track day at Willow Springs Raceway, the cavalcade of cars will then travel together to Los Angeles for the event finale.

I hope to be able to get the mid point cities as we get closer to the event. I have a contact within Saleen for this information.

SO, GET THOSE DAYS OFF NOW OR YOU WILL MISS OUT!

Wow, I bet that'd be a right laugh!!! If you go I expect to see some pics in the gallery when you get back!

They are now starting from only two cities on the east coast, Miami and New York, instead of four. They will be departing on Sunday July 29. I have not been able to get the cities in between where they will stop for the nights. They will arrive in Las Vegas on Thursday August 2. Then on Friday they will go to Willow springs for some track time.

This should be an awesome time at the track, outrageous cars and horsepower.  :driving:

FOR all that maybe in Miami and New York city area, The Cannonballers will be starting the first leg of their trip west tomorrow.

Keep an eye in the rear veiw mirror. :driving:

I have no information on where they will be staying the first night. Perhaps we will see it posted tomorrow morning.

If anyone would like to see them off here is the link.

I'm guessing myself. #1 day they drove at night. #2 day they drive during the day. I'm hoping to see what happens today.

I don't know whether to leave here on wed after work or to arrive Thursday morning.

I know that Willow Springs Track is rented for Friday.

The wife and I will be leaving Orange County tomorrow morning (thurs) about 9:00 am. Will be in Las Vegas by 1:00 pm. If you would like to hook up, let me know and I will PM you my cell #.

I expect to see cars start coming in between 3 and whenever.

Bob

That'd be great, except #1 I just dropped the car off to get the front bumper repainted, so I probably won't get the z4 back till friday. (car came with some relatively major scratches from carmax) #2 I work 3pm till midnight. I'm off Friday though, took a day of leave to go see Godsmack.
But yeah i'm cool for trying to meet up if ya'll are still here on Friday.

Headed out Thursday morning for Las Vegas at 9:00. Arrived at 12:20 ( 230 miles you do the math ). Nice travel top down and this big smile. Went by the hotel that the Cannonballers were to stay in and asked some questions. Found out that they would be parking on the 4th floor of the parking lot and had the 10th floor for rooms. Went and checked in and headed to the Las Vegas Speedway. I guess that that part got deleted. Went back to town for some seafood and drinks. Went back to the parking lot and a few cars had started coming in. There were a few cars come in while we were there and there was no show to be had. We soon got tired of not being able to get to the cars or the people and went and filled up the car with gas and went to our room.

Got up early at 7:00 on Friday and picked up some coffee and a scone and headed to the parking lot to see what was going on. Was actually able to speak to a few of the drivers and find out what the plan was. They were leaving in groups of 5-6 in 20 minute intervals. By the time we finished our coffee and did a QD on the car ( had rain drops on it ) 3 groups of cars had already headed to Willow Springs Track. We got out on the road by 8:30. 75 miles down the road we started seeing Cannonball cars in the rear veiw mirror.
