Just a Hi from the New World.
59 yr old Canadian here. Retired shop teach (Industrial Arts - Wood, Welding and Drafting) with a new to him 2008 3.0si.
First BMW too, so Im truly a newby.
I was actually looking at a Mini Cooper S and spotted a lonely white Z with red leather.
Damn thing called out to me ..seduced me !
Next thing I know the salesman has got me while I'm still under the influence..
A signature later and ...
Well you all know the rest of the story ...
Actually compared to a Mini the Z was excellent value...
Almost 2 years of full factory warranty plus BMW Certified on top of that ..
So I couldn't lose.
I live just east of Toronto (Whitby)..A stone's throw away from Mosport (The race track)
Waiting for some snow here (none yet this season). Shod the Z with Michelin Snow Tires just in case.
Most look sick when they ask me if I'm going to store it til spring, and I say Im thinking I might just drive it through the winter.
If winter ever arrives, Im not sure what I'll do.
The Zed looks shiny and clean in the garage and Im reluctant to get it slushed up and grimy with salt and sand.
The learning curve is steep. Lots of technology to get familiar with.
Im enjoying all of it.
Figured out RFT Tires suck.
Not sure what the folding in mirrors are supposed to prove. They kind of just point upwards ?
Wondering why when the manufacturer (BMW) is paying for the oil change I can somehow travel 22000 kms.
When I pay, everyone else says change it out at 4000 - 5000 kms ?
Only true issue I have is with the seats.
Im 6'1" and 220 lb.
Recovering from a motorcycle misadventure which resulted in 5 fractured ribs etc.
(Can anyone here tell me how a person in a minivan and on a cell phone cannot see a big guy on a 700 lb Harley - Don't get me started ..Im a Z4 Sportsman now)
The side bolster digs into my ribs and causes a painful distraction.
So Im hoping that either the seat or my ribs learn to work with one another.
Enough about me ...
Im looking forward to learning more about your Z's and the people who love them
Cheers
