Just a Hi from the New World.
59 yr old Canadian here. Retired shop teach (Industrial Arts - Wood, Welding and Drafting) with a new to him 2008 3.0si.
First BMW too, so Im truly a newby.

I was actually looking at a Mini Cooper S and spotted a lonely white Z with red leather.
Damn thing called out to me ..seduced me !
Next thing I know the salesman has got me while I'm still under the influence..
A signature later and ...
Well you all know the rest of the story ...
Actually compared to a Mini the Z was excellent value...
Almost 2 years of full factory warranty plus BMW Certified on top of that ..
So I couldn't lose.
I live just east of Toronto (Whitby)..A stone's throw away from Mosport (The race track)
Waiting for some snow here (none yet this season). Shod the Z with Michelin Snow Tires just in case.
Most look sick when they ask me if I'm going to store it til spring, and I say Im thinking I might just drive it through the winter.
If winter ever arrives, Im not sure what I'll do.
The Zed looks shiny and clean in the garage and Im reluctant to get it slushed up and grimy with salt and sand.

The learning curve is steep. Lots of technology to get familiar with.
Im enjoying all of it.
Figured out RFT Tires suck.
Not sure what the folding in mirrors are supposed to prove. They kind of just point upwards ?
Wondering why when the manufacturer (BMW) is paying for the oil change I can somehow travel 22000 kms.
When I pay, everyone else says change it out at 4000 - 5000 kms ?
Only true issue I have is with the seats.
Im 6'1" and 220 lb.
Recovering from a motorcycle misadventure which resulted in 5 fractured ribs etc.
(Can anyone here tell me how a person in a minivan and on a cell phone cannot see a big guy on a 700 lb Harley - Don't get me started ..Im a Z4 Sportsman now)

The side bolster digs into my ribs and causes a painful distraction.
So Im hoping that either the seat or my ribs learn to work with one another.

Enough about me ...
Im looking forward to learning more about your Z's and the people who love them

Cheers

Welcome to the forum John

Pics of what must be a very rare (and desirable) colour combo required ASAP - and is it a proper Z or a coupe ? :poke:

Thanks for the welcome.
I will get my arse in gear as far as getting some pics taken and posted.
Something more for me to learn.

My Zed is a "proper" Roadster with a black top. :)
It has only 30300 kms on it and was a lease return from the father of the BMW Service Manager.
Included options were everything except the Nav System.
Windows were tinted and there is a paint protection film on the leading edge of the hood.
Trunk even has a cargo liner.
Ive added a Leather Z Arm Rest / Storage Cubby
Im enjoying the automatic transmission..Three ways to shift. Can't beat that !
And before I get slammed for opting out of a clutch, remember that Harley accident ?
Left foot has expressed irregularly timed objections to various tasks since my hospital stay.
My feet aren't big enough to heel (clutch) toe (gas).
When I get bigger feet I'll try and perfect that and let everyone know how it works.
Til then Im just doing the best I can ha ha

If everything goes to plan Im hoping to use the Zed as a light touring machine for myself and my wife.
New England has some awesome roads that I am very familiar with (Vermont New Hampshire, and Maine).
Plus the Maritime Provinces offer outstanding vistas and destinations. Hopefully next summer !

Cheers
John

Hi and welcome, really hope that you get to grip with the bolsters, if you have an M Sport the seats have high bolsters but they are very comfortable and supportive for most.

As for oil changes, you have the old and wizened choice of replacing every few 1,000 miles, because of the limitations on limits and fits in the 70's and 80's combined with lubricating oil of tht era. However modern manufacturing methods and fully synthetic oIl mean that you do not need to change so readily, now the car tells you when it needs a service. An example is that I do 500 miles a week in mine, most of it on the motorway, my first oil change was at 26,000 miles, I'm now at 46,000 miles and have used less than 250 ml of oil in the last 20,000 miles.....the conclusion is that my engine is running perfectly.

Hi bumpy, that's almost what I do over here but I've some way to go yet before I retire

Enjoy the Z, looking forward to getting mine easy next week

:driving:

Ps I even work in a place called Whitby ! Spooky

Toronto eh??? Well I won't hold that against you, I spent many years in Ottawa before shifting to the West Coast. When I bought my Z my friend with a Mini gave me all kinds of gears about it not being not practical, should have bought a Mini he claimed...I told him I already have practical with my SUV. A few weeks later he showed up with a Cayman so I guess he worked it out. Hope you are enjoying your new Z as much as I am...and my RFTs will be going away very soon too as heavy West Coast Rain combined with high speed lead to very uncomfortable aquaplaning with the Bridgestones. I plan to go with a set of Continental Contact DWS for all season replacements as soon as I can get a run down below the border...they are much cheaper in the US and the savings pay for a nice road trip
PS...my motorcycle is up for sale before I end up as a bumper ornament. Just getting very unsafe out there with too many blind drivers :driving:

Very nice bumpy

That's some serious tinting you have there, and despite myself I love the wheels - if you are going for the dark look then some clack grilles would look perfect 8)

The indicators look modified so they don't stick out so much - did they come like that, or did you do it ? And if you did, we need a how-to !
