Just a question,
Was at the dealer last night but didnt get a good play around with the Nav feature,
I did see a "DVD" logo inside the center storage box so is it possible to use it for movies?

Starscream, I can't help you but there are lots of techy-geeks who will be along to answer your questions, gotta give them time to have that other pot of coffee :coffee:

I know from the old Z4um that is has been done. As to what is needed and how I have no idea... :(

and you posted this because you wanna win the PW award :stir:

You cannot play them as it stands, but you can add certain components (which would need to include another stand-alone car DVD player) and output it through the factory screen.

But with just the basic Nav system, no.

ok so not much can be done with that screen,

What about a rear license plate camera to display on the screen?

No, I just feel like people appreciate some kind of response after a few members have read their thread yet no one's given any feedback. It's nice to know someone will be along shortly to help :)

basically you need the TV module, then you can add a backup cam and a dvd player.. expect about £450 as an aftermarket mod to get the TV in.. but it's freeview dvb-t.. im soooooooooooo tempted =)

edit: when i say aftermarket, i mean an OEM BMW tuner, with standard AV leads for Cam / DVD. The DVB-T is all genuine BMW, and it looks amazing.

It can be done. But you'll need help from the aftermarket.

I had the TV function on my M3, nice feature when waiting in the car but I wouldn't pay extra for it, very expensive!

X88 Racing had everything on his old Z, DVD, camera, data logging etc. He ran it through the original screen and used the original sat nav DVD. I can't remember all the details but he had to fit some kind of interface and a bunch of other electronic goodies. It might be worth contacting Simpson Motorsport, they did the installation.

 You cannot play them as it stands, but you can add certain components like a stand-alone car DVD player, or a rear view mirror monitor which can play movies also.
My friend Joyoo had added some compnents in his car,a stand alone car DVD, It might be worth. He did the installation himself. :tumbleweed:

Do you know anyone that can do it Andy, Group buy?

Last year (could have been the year before) at the bmw event at tatton park, cheshire. there was a guy with a pre facelift Z4 in sterling grey watching the F1 on his satnav screen. very impressive, although i have never seen him on this forum?
